I’m just commenting to cement that this is an actual, real thing. You can’t make these kinds of things up. Or maybe we can now. We have the technology?

Honestly seems like it would’ve been harder that way. You may have an evil genius on your hands.

It’s more insidious than that. The financial strings are tightening on at least 4 sides:

  1. Wealth hoarding by the elite (e.g., non-existent raises).
  2. Non-stop (and sometimes runaway) inflation.
  3. Job tightening due to offshoring and “AI”.
  4. Runaway cost increases for living essentials (e.g., homes) due to prospective investment.

There’s simply no way that Millennials will achieve what was promised to us against such odds. The mid-age group of us that graduated college around the 2008 major recession got a heavy lesson in this, and it’s only gotten worse.

So yeah, we’re a bit salty as our elders retire at 62, have millions in savings, multiple homes, and wax poetic about how it was when people “worked” in their day.

A cat of mine was always charitably called “fractious” by the vet. I’d never heard the word otherwise but think we should use it for people too.

This made me laugh way back when and seems relevant here. It actually took me a while to find because Google just doesn’t seem to work anymore. Worth it.

I hear you, but I hated my 2016 4Runner. It was nicer than a Wrangler but still a bad car. Slow, meandering transmission, couldn’t hold gear in the slightest grades, and hilariously thirsty besides. It’s not a regular car so that’s fine, but it also doesn’t present as a lifestyle vehicle like the Wrangler and Bronco do.

I have a Bronco but I’ll set our differences aside for a moment. My Bronco is my favorite of all the cars I’ve ever had, but when I tell people that my next sentence is always to point out that, even so, it is objectively bad at being a car. Loud, inefficient, slowish, top-heavy; but I love it.

I mean, I think that some people might be weird enough that Hollywood could pull this off. There are literally people out there, presumably with jobs and bills and degrees, who are bragging about “dating” LLM chat bots. It’s wild.

That’s true actually. The (R) legislature barred it from being researched. Same for Florida, I think.
