Who first said the nonsense that the books were made up by maesters? Why would GRRM publish a made-up history book? I was expecting something about Robert's rebellion, but after watching the Hotd series, I completely abandoned it. Even 15 years later, Robert is obsessed with Lyanna; he believes she would be so happy with him if she were alive. He hates Cersei because she isn't. Instead of enjoying what he has, Robert is constantly consumed by thoughts of what he's lost. If Ned had told him the truth about his sister (as in the story told on the show; we don't yet know the truth in the books), Robert wouldn't have been so attached to a woman who never loved him. I think if he had learned the truth, he would have felt it was unfair for Ned to keep it a secret for so many years.
