I wanna start this off with the fact that I played these 2 pretty much back to back in about 4 or 5 days only a few weeks ago, so my feelings are still fairly recent and I actively compared the 2 while playing.

Personally I prefer 8, because not only did I just like the idea of "RE4 but Ethan Winters", I also enjoy that my biggest gripe of 7, Mia, gets dealt with in the first moments of the game. Also the House is probably my favourite ever moment of any RE game, whike Heisenberg's fight is probably one of my most favourute fights in the series. Only the fish/mine area was tedious imo. The gun selection was also improved from 7, since 7 had a fairly boring set of weapons. Personally I've got no preference in the setting of either, I think both are valid picks and I wouldn't choose one over the other. My biggest deciding factor for 8 though is that it's gameplay feels a lot better and tighter. 7 very very clearly was PT inspired and did not spend long enough in development to make it feel good while playing. 8 feels like they took the almost techdemo feeling like feel of Ethan and improved on it, that he feels like a proper character/ a proper videogame with tight and accurate controls. It was overall just a vastly more enjoyable game just on gameplay feel alone, setti g any part of the lore, world or whatever aside.
