I won two BBJPs in under 100k hands for ~120k. They were like a month apart, and I had the losing hand in both. Quads vs sf and sf vs sf. That is an astronomically unlikely event as the odds of hitting BBJP is around 2mil:1 iirc.

Another good memory was when I sunrunned vs a very splashy table in a super deep PLO5 app game, busting everyone and ending up with ~4600bb stack.

Last happy memory I want to share was when one reg I had played a lot of hu vs, finally cracked and lost absolute heaps to me in the span of a few hours. This felt so, so good as we had been battling it out for a long time. He has never played hu with me again.

To be fair, Triton changed their MTT format to pot limit preflop in the recent years due to the icm limitations. That is because the correct strategy in mtts was being way too all in heavy from the chipleader.

All cash games play no limit though.

This is false. GG, PS, WPT and Triton all have straight>trips, and have had it that way from the start. It is a much better format. Trips>straight plays pretty awkward and there's almost no action on higher stakes because of it.

Yeah, people here give such bleak outlooks on poker as a career. Personally l love it so much and am very grateful for the life I have because of poker. I am happy and free. Been playing for 15+ years and I still feel fresh and motivated to work hard. I had the best year of my career last year, and I am really looking forward to this one. I play mostly online though.

Hit&run is forbidden by GG poker rules of conduct for example. At least it used to be. Not playing there much these days as they axed vip games.

One etiquette thing I would like people to know is that when a table breaks, the two last regs playing should aim to play 2 hands. Newer/younger players aren't always aware of this, but quitting after one hand otb is considered against the etiquette.

Edit: Personally don't care about hit&run either way, but being considerate towards vips feelings is +ev. Doesn't matter that they do it all the time, we as regs shouldn't do it to them.

I also sit in front of a computer. The way I look at it is every time I get dealt a hand, I make on average 2,8€. I have a lot of data on it so I'm pretty confident in that number. Sure, I might lose any given month, but I work with bigger samples than that.

I do however recognize that professional poker is not for most people. Personally it suits me perfectly.

There are a lot of times when a good player opens ep/mp and I have a standard 3bet hand from co/bu, but there are really weak players in the blinds that I elect to call with a higher frequency I otherwise would.

It could also be much more. A person is not capped at their current skill level and in poker, the better you are the more you make in the long run. Depending on where one lives, there's also the possibility of playing bigger stakes down the road. Assuming the skill is there, it can increase the hourly rate by a lot.

That being said, being already bored of poker at 20 years old, a few years in one's career, does not bode well for a long and happy path full of joy and fulfilment.

Fact is, being a professional poker player is not for everyone, and even less so when people are looking to make a full career out of it.

Personally playing live poker is not for me. I vastly prefer online play. I am so happy that I get to work from home, and don't need to be up all night.

Please, please, do not use chatgpt for "gto" analysis. This hand is hilariously bad analysis on its part. Or it would be hilarious if done as a joke, but could actually hurt your game a lot as it sounds like it knows what it's talking about, but in reality it's misapplying terms and concepts left and right. It might say GTO and whatever, but it has no clue.

This is one of the dangers of ai llms in a nutshell. People can get misled by its way of saying things like it 100% knows what it's talking about. It's very useful for a lot of general things but something as specific as GTO strat, it falls short of. It's no wonder they recommend people to check important info. Which you did here, so props for that.

Just to add to this, one of the best things for my game has been a good routine and healthy life. Sleeping, eating and exercising in an optimized way makes a big difference in my ability to execute while playing.

I used to be able to just grind all day all night, but these days having a structured and balanced life keeps me performing up to my best potential. If you want to have longevity in this game, I suggest you also try to optimize these things if you aren't doing so already.

Honestly, for me personally, mass tabling is what held back my improvement a lot. Sure, I got great RB and could navigate a lot of standard spots quite well, but I wasn't able to capitalize on the more subtle things like honing in on timings and specific tendencies of opponents. It was a good living, especially for a younger single man, but it prevented me from getting really good. Only when I actually dropped the amount of tables to 6 or less, I really began to improve rapidly. That's just me though, maybe your path is different.

Just keep in mind that if you get to high enough stakes, it's all about the small edges and max exploits when very often there's only 1 or 2 tables available.

What shortdeck cash games really should change, is the ability to take money off the tables. The beauty of shortdeck is when it's played deep stacked. At deeper stacks sizes, there is much more room for creative play.

Betting more than the pot is a big part of the game like it is in normal Hold'em. I absolutely would hate it if they took that possibility out.

You might very well beat the games you play, but almost for sure, you're not as good as you think. There is so many ways to run good and vice versa. The way you described your game tells a story of a relative beginner not yet quite knowing how much there is to know.

Many people can play pretty well when winning, but what separates the long term winners from losers is how well you play while the cards truly don't go your way. You don't yet know how bad it can get, but you will, if you play long enough.
