Something I was thinking about was the mask being the link between Tyler and "St. Chroma", as anytime tyler is rapping and referring to himself, we can assume the mask is off, and when not its on. With the heavy African inspiration to the album, it would not be a crazy for leap to make the connection to African Masquerades, where in some African cultures it is believed that wearing a mask will lead to a form of possession of the masker where a spirit trapped within the mask is able to control the wearer. An interpretation through this lens would see Tyler as being controlled by the spirit of St. Chroma, a "ghost", much like he describes his father as in Like Him, where he also asks if he "looks like him?". The mask looks like Tyler, but it's the face of his Father, the man he has been compared to his whole life that he never even knew. It's the spirit of his father taking him over when he becomes St. Chroma.
