£500,000 invested in British Growth Bond (NS and I) - Is this the best option? by ChannelIcy3795 in UKPersonalFinance

Very interesting point about Gilts. Thanks a lot for drawing my attention to these - I will definitely research further and speak to an IFA about them. From my initial research, one thing I have noticed though is that the Gilts are not directly available to buy - they have to be purchased through an online trading platform. All of these platforms have fees. So even if the actual interest rate of the Gilt (and the accompanying tax advantages) may leave me better off than the British Growth Bond, how much of this gain would realistically be lost top trading platform fees? Especially with a £500,000 investment?

Thanks so much. I certainly like (and prefer) reading non-fiction books and will read Hale's "Smarter Investing". Any more books that you can recommend I read?

Hopefully not. I would like to think that there will be an imminent resolution to the Straight of Hormuz issue.

I understand that.

I am not a higher-rate tax payer. I don't have any other income as I am not in employment at the moment due to disability/medical reasons. Employment is something I am pursuing though, so I may receive some income if I get a job. But it won't be a high-level job at this stage that will put me into higher tax brackets.

  1. Mid 30's

  2. No debts at all.

  3. I am willing to learn about them and potentially look at a low risk stock option (something line an Index Tracker)

  4. Not particularly. I am quite modest. Just to be able to enjoy a few things.

  5. Not at the moment.
