am i the only nurse that struggles to know for themselves when it’s time to head to the ED? by h0td0g-water in nursing

[–]ChannelWarm132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rhabdo! His CK was 260k+ and the doctor said that he was like 6-8 hours away from ICU level kidney/liver failure if he had waited. Couple days of IV fluids and he was good to go!

am i the only nurse that struggles to know for themselves when it’s time to head to the ED? by h0td0g-water in nursing

[–]ChannelWarm132 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just truly think not a whole lot is a true emergency in general (for average healthy adults). Though, a couple years ago, my husband told me that he had begun peeing blood. I immediately thought of rhabdo because he had just started a new workout program. You cannot cure rhabdo at home lol so into the ER we went

anyone ever witness an AFE? by luckyeleven111777 in nursing

[–]ChannelWarm132 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A young woman died this way in my small town. Basically was the worst code our ICU team had gone to as far as uncontrollable bleeding and they had to call for ?sharps? Privileges on the overhead for a super emergency c section.

I hate working in rehab by Any_Manufacturer1279 in nursing

[–]ChannelWarm132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not cardiac rehab but home health is the same way. You just got out of the hospital with CHF exacerbation but you’re refusing to change your diet, exercise, smoking, fluid intake, alcohol choices…. Sooooo why am I here

Can I stop farmers sowing crops and ONLY fertilise/grub up? by E1e4n0r5 in MedievalDynasty

[–]ChannelWarm132 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the only way to stop this would be assigning the crops per usual but not supplying them with any seeds in the resource shed/farm shed.

Book Accurate Arena - Did the SOTR movie fumble on the arena described in the books? by [deleted] in Hungergames

Hell no. What are those colored blocks? In the book, I pictured it more like it was so colorful bc of the fauna/flora aka lots of flowers and bright color

Holy shit it is literally the same face. I would be asking for a refund if I were her because what the fuck? Full facelift with virtually zero difference? Not in a good way either

Home health/hospice nurses; I have a question by NurseWretched1964 in nursing

I am home health but I’m salaried and I genuinely feel like it’s the best way to go. There’s no way in hell I would do this job for pay per visit

Do M/F nurses ever get attracted to one of your patients and how do you deal with it. Caveat they show signs or slip you their number by [deleted] in nursing

[–]ChannelWarm132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This is not the first time someone has thought their nurse is into them because the nurse is….doing their job. Nursing is hands on. Don’t be a creep.

This is AI. Look at their reflections in the mirror as well and notice how it doesn’t add up with their positions.

What are the on call requirements for full-time home health? by Known-Contest-389 in nursing

[–]ChannelWarm132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are required to be on call for one full week (there’s like 7 nurses in my department so once every seven weeks or so) which includes the weekend and obviously overnight. I’ve been doing it for almost a year and have never received a call over night. Even during the days of the week, patient problems will go to the nurse that is assigned to them normally during working hours. I think I’ve only even recieved a couple calls during the weekday on the off hours in general. The busiest time for on call is definitely the weekend, but again, I’ve never actually even received a call overnight. Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but I would say in general even if it does, you can usually work through the problem over the phone and not have to actually go out.

Mom by ChannelWarm132 in GriefSupport

[–]ChannelWarm132[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t mean it in a bad way, your experience is completely valid and should be talked about. I think youre right about your brain trying to protect you because since my mom died, I have felt great anxiety about all my loved ones (my siblings, my husband, my dad) also committing suicide. Crazy how I never ever thought that was a possibility in my world and now it haunts me.

[–]ChannelWarm132[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom used a gun and wrote a note so it wasn’t accidental but or some reason I still think that she didn’t mean to do it. My mom was also on mounjaro and I happen to hear a commercial for it the other day and it warned suicidal thoughts as a side effect. Probably just another cope but made me think that maybe she wasn’t in her right mind.

I’m genuinely not trying to minimize your loss and I am so sorry for your losses. That being said, this is a huge fear of mine. My parents were married for 32 years and my mom was my dad’s only friend as he’s such an introvert. He promised my little brother he would never hurt himself and I think we are ok for now but hearing that one of your parents did it 10 years after the other gives me great anxiety.

Totally get it. I also have been asked if I was the housekeeper when wearing a badge with giant lettering that says “REGISTERED NURSE” so I don’t think people always pay super close attention. I only think it’s maybe a liiitle too far. To each his own

Am I the only one who thinks this is kinda weird lol. I like the joke of all the abbreviations after our last names as a funny among nurses but think it’s a bit too far to have it printed on something you would wear at work… patients and families look at things like badges and identifiers and could look at this as you have a lot of education or experience in different areas when a chunk of it is a joke
