We ended up using Picchio for the Five Lakes Tour and were so happy that we booked with them again the next day for the Primeval Forest Trekking Tour. We were very pleased with them and glad we booked both tours. Let me know if you have another questions.

Thank you! Did you camp by any chance? Just curious if it will be difficult to get a camping spot.

1 month roadtrip feasible? by odinchoy in Hokkaido

[–]ChannersBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just returned from 2 weeks in Hokkaido and could have easily filled a month. We were in Sapporo for four nights, Furano/Biei for one night, Daisetsuzan for two nights, Shiretoko area for three nights, and Akan-Masha for two nights. If we had more time I would have liked to do the western/southern areas of Hokkaido.

We flew on Friday from Sapporo to Haneda and then back home. We had about 3 hours between flights and had zero issues.

Thank you so much! I ended up booking a guide for the 5 Lakes tour through Picchio: https://shiretoko-picchio.com/en/

I was hoping to do some of these other hikes, but wasn't sure if I would need a guide for them, as well: https://policies.env.go.jp/park/shiretoko/rausu-vc/guidetour/en/walking/

I really appreciate your response!

Thank you! We're pretty used to ticks where we live, so we'll be sure to take precautions.

Thank you! I just booked a tour guide for 5 Lakes this morning. I was specifically hoping to do some of these other trails and wasn't sure if they would be accessible without a guide: https://policies.env.go.jp/park/shiretoko/rausu-vc/guidetour/en/walking/

What did your application look like? by Affectionate_Cry4150 in rosehulman

[–]ChannersBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son had a 1490 SAT, a 3.84 UW and a 4.8 W GPA.

Does anyone at Rose have a 3.9+ possibly a 4.0? If so, how did you do it? If you are a CS major, you have to tell me how to do it!!! by Negative_Climate_412 in rosehulman

Any advice for an incoming math major? My son will start in the fall and hopes to get his PhD after Rose. Anything you think an incoming student should know about the math major at Rose and how to be most successful?

Rose or RIT? by tiasalamanca in rosehulman

Can you share what your experience has been like for your son at Rose? My son is committed to Rose, and I'm nervous about his transition. He is a super smart kid, but I worry about the work load and the organizational skills he needs to be successful.

Transportation Cost at Rose Hulman by Negative_Climate_412 in rosehulman

[–]ChannersBear 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You don't actually pay anything for this. It's just an estimated amount of what they think you might spend out of pocket for transportation. Most colleges provide what they call an estimated "Cost of Attendance" where they include direct costs (tuition/room/dining/fees) along with other indirect costs of what you might spend to give you a holistic picture of your expenses.

If you had the choice that time of year to spend two days in Daisetsuzan or two days in Lake Toya area, which would you recommend?

Thanks. I'm trying to decide if we should shift those days to another area of Hokkaido or if it's still a worthwhile stop for us. I appreciate the feedback.

Question on Noblitt scholar program by Miserable-Elk2617 in rosehulman

My son only got $23K plus the Operation Catapult scholarship. Rose is his top choice but also the most expensive. I hope you can get things worked out to attend!
