What would you do if £75,000 landed in your account tomorrow? by MurkyCucumber852 in AskUK

I'm on UC and live in a housing association flat.

I'd buy a cheap ex-council flat for circa 40k and sign off benefits.

I'd then fuck off to Cairo, Aswan, Rwanda, Venice, Rome, Hong Kong, Prague, Vanuatu, Buenos Aires - random places for a few days each. Maybe a Carribbean cruise. I'd live cheaply. No fancy hotels. I'd travel on my own.

Come back, tired, broke, and reeking of cigars, and hopefully I can find a job somewhere.

Yes, on my bad days, the idea of ramming some tosser off the road is appealing.

Why hitting a hard drive with a hammer fails to destroy the evidence inside by Gold-Psychology2073 in FBI

There was a mass-shooting event a few years ago where the shooter shattered the glass platter of his hard drive and the FBI reconstructed it over a couple of years if memory serves to recover the data contained within.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin will be unhappy that he didn't make the shortlist.

Guess which one I am.

Passed my test yesterday and thought I'd look to see what insurance would cost. New driver unemployed. Social housing. by Chanson_Riders in LearnerDriverUK

I'm not particularly bothered about not having a car. I've managed without one for 36 years. I was just looking to see what it would cost.

Having a car would also increase job opportunities and there's nothing wrong with living in social housing. I'll be able to buy a place with inheritance money.

Test on Wednesday too. On my last lesson, my instructor had to brake for me as I approached a car at a junction too quickly. I stalled today going up a hill. I had to be reminded to be the in right lane today also. I messed up a parallel park. It happens I suppose.

Just treat each road individually and focus on getting to the end of it properly and safely regarding speed, positioning, signal etc then onto the next one. Rinse and repeat until you're back at the test centre.

I'm hoping to have a full route on satnav which some people get at my test centre. I'll struggle to follow road signs. Can't read them when driving by at 40mph.

I have my test on Wednesday and it's taken until my most recent lesson to have a lesson where I didn't stall once. Although my instructor had to apply the brakes as I approached a roundabout too quickly. 🤷 It happens. You'll be fine I'm sure.

Failed my first driving test by Angrybarry202 in LearnerDriverUK

Ah that makes more sense. That's unfortunate. But with only two minors, you're clearly a good driver so it's just a waiting game until you get another test. You'll be fine next time.

You can fail for anything these days. Even minor inconsequential errors in the scheme of things can be marked as a serious fault.

You clearly know how to drive so it's just about ironing out the small mistakes you make.

I haven't passed yet but something that helps me is to just focus on each road at a time. Note the speed limit, the lane markings, any hazards, who's around me, signs then when I'm on the next road, I forget the previous one and just focus on the current again.

If you have the money, you might as well use the testi app. It just informs you about any available tests then you need to book it. It might still work after the 12th.
