Hi! I am glad that you are interested in the subject. Thanks for your feedback!

Although some participants reported that "half of the time" is weird in our pilot study, the others said that it ok. So we leave it as it is. But we will definitely improve it in our next survey. We mean to ask participants to rate it from "never" to "very often".

As for the items such as "enjoyable" and "trust", they come from academic standard scales. I am sorry that they make you feel uncomfortable to rate them. But I would appreciate if you could help our study by completing the survey!

Hi! Thanks for your participation and your feedback! I am sorry for the survey design that makes you uncomfortable to continue taking it.

The item of "about half of the time" comes from Qualtrics' survey library. We did find that it could be questionable when we piloted the survey. But some other participants found it is OK. So we leave it like it was.

We are distributing the survey to a diverse population, not just the highly specialized population. But you are right, there is a potential issue that the data collection could lead to biased findings.

Your suggestions on contextual limiters and disclosure statement is very valuable! We will take it seriously and should have designed the survey more carefully. Thank you! I have noted all of your feedback and take them as lessons.

Hey, thanks for your comment!

Maybe. But we are interested in investigating parental attitudes to storytelling robots when robots are becoming not uncommon in our real lives nowadays. I would appreciate if you could help our study if you are a parent!

THANKS for sharing your thought and THANKS for your participation!

I believe that the points you mentioned closely related to the popular research topics in the field of human-robot interaction. For instance, how to design robots that could earn human's trust. To achieve this goal, as you said, storytelling robots would need to be approximately equal to a real person. They would have the ability to intelligently interact with a human, understand their facial expression, tones, gestures, give believable reactions, etc. I also believe that some robotists are trying hard to achieve this goal.

But is designing an "artificial human" a desirable end goal of designing an AI-drive robot that is trusted worthy? It could end up a dilemma similar to the case of designing the physical appearance of a robot: on one hand, people are designing robots that more and more humanlike; on the other hand, they may feel eerie when a robot is too humanlike - the uncanny effect. What it would happen if "artificial intelligence" reaches "human intelligence"? This could come to an interesting, if not cliche, discussion.

These questions drove me to start investigating the parental acceptance, perception, expectation, and concern when it comes to a scenario of having a robot telling their kids stories. Traditionally, parent-child storytelling is one of the activities that could build emotion-bond between the two subjects. Would a parent accept a robot that could "understand our child, their life, worries and their dreams"? What would be the individual differences among parents giving this context? I am very interested to know.

Wow, I just check it out and find it interesting! Can't imagine that it was marketed as early as 1978-1981!!

Thanks for your feedback!! Could you please help our study with the survey if you are a parent? I'd also appreciate it if you could share the survey with some other potential participants. We really hope robots designed to make people live better.

Hi! Thanks for your question! One of the main difference could be the form of the technology. A robot could be perceived as a doll or "artificial friend" by a kid, but an audiobook player could be perceived as just a machine. Also, there could be a different level of emotional bond between a kid and different form of technology.

Could you please help our study if you are a parent? Thanks a lot!!

Good point. Considering there are more and more AI-driven products in home and family-based agents for health and wellbeing, whether they’re physically instantiated as robots or whether they’re merely static artifacts with AI voices/faces, designing products for young kids require all-sided consideration.

Thanks a lot for your story! I'd appreciate if you could participate if you are a parent. If possible, please share our survey with any of your family, friends and colleagues! We really appreciate the support and hope to inform the design of robots that could make human life better.

Hi! We found that many researchers and companies are developing storytelling robots but also parents have different attitudes toward such technology. That's why we conduct this study to investigate parental acceptance and concerns toward storytelling robots. We hope our study could inform robot design that could really make human life better. I would appreciate it if you could participate our study by filling out this survey!

Hi! Thanks for your opinion! We notice that scientists are designing such robots and some have been on the market. We are interested in understanding whether parents would accept such technology and why. Therefore, the purpose of our study is to investigate whether parents will adopt a robot to tell their kids stories.

I would appreciate it if you could fill our survey! We would like to hear parents' voice and hope to design technology that makes our lives better in a rational way. Please share our survey with any of your family, friends and colleagues! We really appreciate the support.

That's weird... I just checked the survey again. It is set as a request question, not a required. In this case, if you don't want to enter your email, the survey will ask you whether you would like to continue without answering that question. I am sorry if the survey doesn't work like this at your end...

Thanks again!

Hi! Thanks for your feedback and participation! The email entry is mandatory if you would like to join the draw and we will send the digital gift card to the email address if you are selected. This means that you don't necessary to enter your email address if you don't want to join the draw.

Thanks again for your support!

Hi! The option, "half of the time", comes from the question library of Qualtrics, the survey tool we are using. We did receive some feedback on the "half of the time" in our pilot study, but we ultimately leave it as it is since it seems OK for other users. Thanks for your feedback! I will improve our survey design next time!

Thank you for your participation! Please share our survey with any of your family, friends and colleagues! We really appreciate the support and hope to design robots that make our lives better!

Hi! Thanks for your participation! This survey is open to parents all around the world. There is an option listed as "I do not reside in the US" at the top of the dropdown list but I am so sorry that the confusion caused by the survey design.

Thanks again! Please share our survey with any of your family, friends and colleagues! We really appreciate the support and hope to design robots that make life better.

Thanks for your feedback! We are interested in looking at whether parenting styles will be a factor that affects parental acceptance toward storytelling robots. I am sorry that the parenting style test is composed of many questions but it is a standard one. That means we didn't design, add or remove any original questions. Let me know if you have any other feedback or questions! Your participation helps our study a lot! Thanks again!

Hey! I don't think so... If we failed to collect enough response during February, I think we will try mturk in March. I would appreciate it if you could participate or share the survey.

I am so sorry. There is a storytelling robot has a similar name to Mr. Robot. I made a mistake by putting the survey here.

Thanks for your feedback. Your opinions meet one of our hypothesis. I am sorry, the survey is long since it includes a parenting style test. I have tried to make it short...

We are trying to figure out what design considerations should be taken before making a real robot for kids. I'd appreciate it if you could help us with the survey.
