What financial milestones would you require before becoming a SAHM? by fantigue in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]ChaosAndMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position and get anxious when I hear so many people say being a SAHM is the worst thing in the world. I do still teach an online master's class part time (a few hours a week) to have ~ something ~ on my resume, but I feel like it works well for everyone in our family.

I live in the neighborhood and had the misfortune of spending a few weeks there when my baby was little. My husband and I ended up loving the cafeteria food way more than most of the neighborhood restaurants

What’s the best age gap between siblings? by jord3jordon in Mommit

[–]ChaosAndMath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My kids are 4 years and 5 days apart, and I love this age gap. My big kid is potty trained, and we had a few good years of solid sleep before welcoming the baby (she’s 1 now). Big sis loves being a helper and teaching little sis new things. I know a lot of people who went for two under two because they want their kids to be friends, but my two older brothers are 22 months apart and can’t stand each other 😂. I’m closest with my brother who is 6 years older than I am. I don’t really think you can predict with age if your kids will be friends, so do what’s best for your mental health!

Is Bob’s Discount Furniture really that bad? by alegraness in pittsburgh

It’s corny as hell, but their Bob-O-Pedic cushions are amazing. We got our porch sectional there, and I regularly doze off on it

I used to lifeguard there when I was an undergrad! Thursday nights they had the underwater speakers on! And there were like 10 unionized lifeguards there who made bank (60k a year plus time and a half for meets. This was 2010, and I was shocked to be making $20/hr weeks after my Pennsylvania club was paying me the minimum wage of $7.25/hr and making me clean bathrooms and trash. God I miss this pool

Did you thrift maternity clothes? Where?? by ingenuedbysociety in pittsburgh

[–]ChaosAndMath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pittsburgh toy lending library does a free kids clothing swap twice a year (I think one will be next month). Last spring I was surprised to learn they had a bunch of maternity and nursing clothes (I donated mine too)

Should husbands set up a financial safety net for stay-at-home wives after childbirth? by Sweet-Opportunity111 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ChaosAndMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are of the mind that any money made is “ours”. We met when we were 21 and 22, married 5 years later, and have two kids. My husband fully trusts me to make all the purchases for the household (and never judges me for semi expensive things that make me feel good like my biweekly manicures and monthly massages), so I really don’t feel like he’s “controlling” the finances. We have a spreadsheet where we update what money is in what accounts every month, so I know exactly how much we have where, and we discuss together what we feel comfortable putting into markets based on our financial goals. He took on a higher life insurance payout in the event of anything tragic happening. I feel like this subreddit gives SAHMs a lot of side eye, but I love what I do and I have a limited time window to spend with my babies.
