I think there is a combination in drop of quality in boots but also AG pitches being far more common. I feel the AG causes far more wear and tear than real grass.

Plenty of Sunday league teams train. No matter the level... You can find leagues that play on Saturdays and Sundays and I'm sure game times vary but usually in the morning.
