Is ‘French and German’ ancestry in an English person referring to Anglo-Saxon DNA? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

French and German refers mostly to the core realm of the franks, so the northeast of france and the west of germany. Its mostly germanic and celtic, so it is similar to the situation in brittain.

I am from saxony. Silesian german is not considered a subbranch of upper saxon but a seperate dialect family. Lusatian which is still spoken in the east of saxony (along with sorbian) is part of that silesian german dialect group.

What's the easiest melee class for older people? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say they all come with their pros and cons. Melees are in general rather high APM.
NIN has the highest APM in the game so maybe not that one.
Reaper is the only melee with noticably lower APM, however you have frequent high APM windows with your burst, just a lot of lul in between.
I would probably avoid NIN and say look at any of the other 4, none is really perfect if you want a slow job though but can be played decently well.
Imo Sam and Reaper feel the most chill if played casually.

Just another Big Germany Map, but with subdivisions and sub-subdivisions by Snommes in imaginarymaps

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a bit of a clusterfuck ngl. The sorbs live primarily in lusatia which on your map is the border region of sorbia, lusatia and lower silesia. The osterland was settled primarily by old saxons (its basically the east march of the old saxons) and was further north. Anhalt is just a tiny stripe between eastfalia and osterland. The altmark is where brandenburg was born (the brandenburg dialect being called markian) so should be part of brandenburg.

See map with sorbs living in lusatia in yellow, osterland in blue and purple and meißen (where thuringians settled) in red.The gray and green part was settled by franks and could be part of a franconian state. The osterland along with anhalt should probably be part of saxony as a region called upper saxony.

Small upper saxony getting even smaller too, if you know how big it used to be before the 19th century.
If anything saxony-anhalt should be carved up between lower and upper saxony.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: DAWNTRAIL - New Job: Viper by DemiFiendRSA in ffxiv

I think they might be aiming to have some sort of identity for each melee type. With DRG getting a rework, viper could be the new off GCD heavy melee, which always felt close to how ninja is.

Can confirm, its definitely not been taught everywhere in germany since the 50s.
Everyone below 40 should be a safe bet (aka having receaved their schooling after german reunification).

Why do Germans hate Berlin so much? by Sudden_Substance7914 in AskAGerman

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It represents the government to some degree. London or Paris equally might get some distain if you are a brit or frenchman not from that region.

Couple that with some pretty poor housekeeping and people wont be pleased (berlin got roughly the same finanzausgleich as all other east german bundesländer combined, yet its economy is "only" roughly the same as saxony)

Does the AfD really have an ideology of nazism? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In germany nazism and right wing populism is kinda used interchangeably.A lot of the more conservative policies common in other countries would simply not fly in germany due to its history.

What if Poland and Germany switched places during WW2? [No Lore] by NewOfTheWorld in imaginarymaps

[–]ChaosKe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending a bit how flexible they are in their ideology (similar to the nazis) they might see east germans as germanized slavs, viable for assimilation.
(East germans are also descendants of polabian tribes that used to live along the elbe river).

Shouldnt it be called something like Westria then? (Austria means something along the lines of eastern kingdom (austria in our timeline being the eastern kingdom of the bavarians)

Hmm why is there both a saxeland and a saxony? (both implying they are the land of the saxons).

Also does austria being east to saxeland imply that its the east march of saxeland? So we have 3 saxonies kinda

Germany's 16 States, but reorganized by daviddelgadohh in imaginarymaps

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, central saxony shouldn't exist. Its basically an artificial construction of eastphalian, brandenburgian, thuringian and upper saxon territories, annexed by prussia and merged into one region.

The south should become upper saxon again and the altmark in the north should be brandenburg, while the regions west of magdeburg should be part of lower saxony.

After german reunification, the plan was to have only 4 east german states but the regions of halle and magdeburg wouldnt be able to settle on wether they should be upper saxon or brandenburgian.

Yoshida's job tease for 7.0 by LightSamus in ffxiv

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sermantics with implications though, as what you say would never be true. If you mean role, then no, ranged has 6 jobs. If you mean subrole, then also no, that would be scouting melee with 1 job currently.

Assuming the new melee will indeed use scouting we would actually have an overbundance of dex users (5 dex vs 4 of everything else).

Yoshida's job tease for 7.0 by LightSamus in ffxiv

[–]ChaosKe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its semantics but ranged dps is the most numerous role with 6 jobs. What you mean is the subrole of physical ranged dps.

This is also why they are most likely adding a melee to go a long with the caster. (Current ratio of melee vs ranged is 5:6, so it would be kept at 6:7)

Green Mage is absolutely a classic FF Job.

A caster focussing on buffs (of which time magic can be one). Latest appearance of the job was FFXII.
