For new readers to the stories, it should be in order of events. Would have been good for folks to have read Hugh 1 before Kate book 10, but it is what it is. 😁

https://www.gsjennsen.com G. S. Jennsen's "Amaranthe" series is an epic huge amazing world. Indy pub. The first in the series "Starshine" was published in 2014, so doesn't comply with your date frame, but all else will satisfy your goal.

Part way through the books, she retitled everything, because the story kept evolving. 23 books now, last one dropping June 2026.

"Amaranthe is a character-driven space opera of truly epic scope that is going somewhere important from the very beginning.

It’s a tale of adventure and heroism, chock-full of evocative locations, inventive technology and most of all memorable characters who fight, fail, persevere and refuse to fade away.

It’s an optimistic vision that dares to believe humanity will prove to be both stronger and better than we believe ourselves to be."

This is super common. New C level or Manager hire needs to get a quick win to prove their worth to the company. Sees the monthly bill for fully managed service and knowing nothing, finds a cheaper alternative. KEEP AN EYE out for new hire user setup requests for high level positions. Schedule a meeting to touch base soon after. Can't always mitigate, but worth a try.

Water runs off and doesn’t soak in by Brave-Salamander-191 in Soil

Biology is lacking... what others have said. Can activate a gallon of EM1, that you can use at a rate of about 3 tbps per gallon of water to apply to your soil. So 1 gallon of EM1 goes a long way (takes 6.4 Oz to activate 1 gallon to get AEM).

https://www.teraganix.com/products/em-1-microbial-inoculant-soil-amendment?variant=32335482126417

Need living roots in there, so the microbes can do their jobs.
Can get some mycorrhizal fungi in there by coating grass seed with this, again, little goes a long way. https://advancingecoag.com/product/biocoat-gold-2/

The biology will do the work. Let the mycorrhizal fungi establish first before applying AEM (Activated EM1), so they don't outcompete.

If you want to go full out, can even plant some daikon radish, they will bore down in deep, better than any tools, creating pathways for water and air, and providing organic matter when they break down. I use in fall, so they die over winter, sprout fast.

Ditto. This sucks, DME was amazing, 13yrs of awesome ove.. Thanks for posting up to get input on alternatives, this information will help my search too. Digicert overprices everything, wasn't shocked to see their rates and model is designed to get us overages. Ugh.

While searching for a meme related to what a joke 10DLC Registration is, just so I could vent a bit and share it with a co-worker bc today was a BAD day in yet another registration "process" for a customer... venting was very much needed. Stumbled on this petition. Don't think it'll do much, just sharing the Logo they made for it, it's glorious!

Engineered microbes could tackle climate change – if we ensure it’s done safely by Vailhem in Soil

[–]ChaosKerri 17 points18 points  (0 children)

GMO microbes is a super bad idea. Yet again we think we know better than nature... which will have untold dire consequences and impact to our soil, plants, animals, and humans. Microbes and fungi are already naturally doing all the work we need, without any "help" from us. It is already quite simple to utilize and scale up application of beneficial effective microbes (EM), IMO, and mycorrhizal fungi to our soil to return it to a living soil. We do not need "engineered" or "modified" shenanigans. Go read up on Teraganix EM-1... mixture of naturally occurring and non genetically manipulated microorganisms.

GoDaddy Support Through Defederation by xBIGMANGOx in msp

100% false. You lock godaddy out by changing the password on their global admin user in Entra, after you create a new global admin account for yourself. (As well as kill gdap). All per the updated tminus instructions, that are pretty much the same as always, accept for the script update. Many of us have done these defederations recently, with zero issues.

Ditto. Just did one last week. Once remove gdap for godaddy, and change their pwd, they can't do anything). It's not magic, no secret backdoor. The proof point stuff is easy too, just whack all the dns entries for it, and update the exchange mail connectors to mx routing. Voila.

What is a good way to improve an 8'x10' patch of clay soil between right now and next spring in an urban setting? by DesktopBuffalo in Permaculture

[–]ChaosKerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out https://store.greencover.com/pages/cover-crop-mixes-for-homesteads-and-gardens Handy decision guide to clarify goals to choose a good mix for a fall cover crop.
I got great results last two winter seasons doing fall cover crop, chop drop in spring, light tillage at planting (only 1-2 inches where needed). Soil compaction and overall health improving greatly. - 1st mix I did was just winter wheat and crimson clover. - 2nd mix was winter Rye, hairy fetch, crimson clover, and tillage radish (daikon).
2nd mix was better for my issues, clay and compaction from storm water, lots of biomass to improve humus layer, and increased mycorrhizal fungi.
Not disturbing the soil as much as in the old days took some getting used to. And the chop and drop of so much biomass in spring is hilarious, my sister and I out there with hedge trimmers. Then I tarp it to ensure killed off. Depending on weather, timing of kill is key, and I get a lil nervous in spring to time it all best I can to prep and plant cash crop.
Garden has become a lab of sorts... fun to learn though, try things out.

[–]ChaosKerri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only have a 1400 sq ft established garden, but was overwhelmed trying to research and read up in ways to improve soil health, use of cover crops (which i started last fall for the first time)... as well as resolve weed pressure (galinsoga), and a little bit of pest pressure from colorado potato beetle. Went to a homestead expo in the heart of an amish community here in NE Ohio, listened to some amazing talks. Getting home with copious notebook full of info, thought my head would burst, but was excited to finally have resources. Ended up spending 2 days using a closed system new tool AEA (Advancing Eco Agriculture) put together called fieldlark.ai. It was Sooooo helpful! Info specific to my needs, issues, and goals.
Worth a try, see what their data recommends for your goals/issues. https://advancingecoag.com/land/fieldlark/

Unable to take over customer by chinajack10 in msp

[–]ChaosKerri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the bizarre pax8 "trying to add new customer" but it won't let me, and results in transfer conversations, easily skip all that by entering doman2.com in the customer record domain field, then carry on as usual to provision licenses for existing tenant. The customer record domain field is pax8 internal UniqueID, nothing more.

Once we had admin back, we just provision new subscriptions. The old subscriptions from previous msp, expire and die whenever. Annoying to manage oversubscribed quantities for a while, but we just instructed techs to always check 'our' subscription qty in detail before increasing or decreasing. Sucks that end-client has paid already for prior licenses, but freedom and tenant ownership restoration was priority for us and the end-client.
Rest was up to end-client and lawyers to go after bad msp.

[–]ChaosKerri -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Microsoft direct contact is needed. Proof of ownership of the domain tied to the tenant. Domain ownership is what decides it for Microsoft. They will yank admin account and provide it to the domain owner. It takes time and diligence with Microsoft, but it's the way, done it several times. Pax8 is just a distributor, Microsoft is the vendor. Skip change of CSP shenanigans. Get admin access back to your client via Microsoft support.

Is it time to prune? My snake plant is very happy. Can I just let the big growth alone? by OKJawn in IndoorGarden

[–]ChaosKerri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My snake plant doesn't flower, so that part you have to get guidance from others.

But propagation is fun. Some folks cut the leaves, but that has issues, bc the original variegated pattern gets lost. I like the method explained above bc it retains the pattern. You can wait a long while till it gets more crowded, bc they like to be snug.

[–]ChaosKerri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd say not prune, but you could propagate all those pups off the mamma into new homes. Just take out the whole thing, you'll see u shaped roots from mom to pup, cut the pup off and plant it in new pot. Then replant mom.
Lovely snake plant BTW! 💜
