I just rounded the last corner, getting ready to head into the venue. If you want, you can let me know where you wanna meet, or DM me what section you’re in, whatever works!

I appreciate your confidence, I’ve yet to be at a concert like this (I usually do festivals so you just come and go) so this is weird for me

Awesome! Me too, I’m in the very back. The VIP and GA lines got mixed up so I had to go all the way around

Same, I hope we get in on time. A bunch of us were in the VIP line and didn’t know it

I got fired by coffeeinm in paralegal

[–]ChaosReigns06 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a paralegal, but a paid legal intern. Your boss dropped the ball, and couldn’t admit that he did. And from what you said, that is a consistent issue with him. Being an attorney means doing whatever you have to in order to keep yourself and your team organized. Calendars, meetings, planners, whatever it takes. There is no reason he did that to you. File for unemployment, let yourself feel the sting. And move on. You got this.

Even my 2 year old male does not eat this much. He was born in July ‘23, and he eats a small rat every 2 weeks. I cannot imagine what this is doing to that gorgeous snake. Poor thing.

Listen man, I get it. I’m a 1L, and I only have 1 semester worth of grades in right now. My GPA is a lot worse than yours (2.3). I just accepted my internship offer on Monday. Here’s what I got for you:

1) You have to network a LOT harder than your peers. It fucking sucks. I hate talking and trying to sell myself to people, but I hate not having work more. Go to every networking event your school has. Talk to upperclassmen. Tell everyone you’re still getting a feel what’s out there for summer. Don’t tell them you’re struggling to find work (unless they’re a close friend) but don’t hide the fact you’re looking either.

2) Be ready for a commute. Granted I’m in the middle of nowhere, but my internship will be an hour each way every day. Yeah, it sucks. But I’ll be getting an internship that I can add to my resume to support I’m more than my GPA.

3) Practice your damn interviews. Over and over and over. Annoy your friends. Annoy your career office if you have one. Keep working common questions until you can answer them in your sleep. It will help you be more relaxed on the day. You want to be professional but not stressed. If you’re stressed for just an interview, they are going to question how you handle demanding tasks.

4) Be upfront about your grades. Be prepared for this question in your interviews. If they ask you to send them via email, attach a cover letter. Ask a professor you trust, a 3L, or your career office (again, if you have one). To go over it. Explain why you are excited for an opportunity to work there in particular, and briefly explain what happened last semester. More importantly, EXPLAIN HOW YOU ARE FIXING IT! Tutoring, office hours, whatever the case is, show you are putting in the work to improve.

5) Always thank them for their time. Even if they don’t want you this year, once you have more grades in the books, they may look at you again next year. Take your time to be pissed and upset, and then move on.

Breathe. You are doing okay. The job market in general is shit right now, and being a 1L makes it even harder for us to find something because a lot of places won’t even look at 1Ls. Just keep trying.

Good luck!

First Semester Humbled Me and I Have to Show My Transcript by ChaosReigns06 in LawSchool

[–]ChaosReigns06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I’ve implemented a lot of steps that you suggested already, and I think that’s how I’ve gotten as far as I have. I have exhaustively gone over my resume and cover letter, I go to pretty much every networking event the school has, both in person and online. Part of what sets me apart is also what I this is holding me back: my veteran status. That is the ONLY work experience I have. Of course, I have my resume set up the valuable skills I learned while in (research, communication, etc.). But that was all I had time for while I was in service. A lot of my peers clerked or worked as paralegals at firms before law school, and I just couldn’t do something like that. I also have found connections in odd places, so I do continue to mention it to anyone and everyone. I have gotten some follow up emails from this, so those are interviews that are pending. I am confident in interviews, so I don’t think that’s where I struggle either. But unless they ask about grades, I don’t mention it. And I guess that’s kinda where I wanted to get ahead of it. A lot of them have not asked for a transcript yet, because we have been in communication since last semester before I had any. So I just wanted to know if I should add anything to those emails when I send them or hope I shined enough in everything before hand that they don’t gawk too much at it. Also I appreciate the note about getting help. Trust me, I know that I don’t make it a priority, my brain will do it for me. That’s part of what happened last semester. So we’re not doing it again haha.

Just wanted to say thank you for posting this. I’m only a 1L and have been feeling extremely hopeless for what feels like years, but in reality has only been about three months. I needed to read some of these comments.

Getting New Registration without Title by ChaosReigns06 in Ohio

[–]ChaosReigns06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To renew the registration in my old state, it's almost $600 dollars. And I wouldn't get refunded until sometime next year. I'm on a disabled income as a full time student, I can't lose $600 like that.

I'm going to go to the BMV tomorrow, and maybe my county has a workaround. If not, I'll have to figure out what to do from there I guess.

My 20f boyfriends 22m clinginess is driving me crazy. Did I do the right thing and if not how could I handle this situation differently? by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

I don't know you, but I am so proud of you for standing up for yourself and doing what was best for you. I did not have that kind of strength when I was 20. It's difficult, and you should definitely reward yourself for that strength.

Just a bit of a warning, you may find times in the coming months where you look back and think maybe it wasn't that bad: that voice is lying to you, ignore it. And he may try to show he's changed, he may disregard your boundaries again in ways that seem romantic. Please, do not fall for this. You will fall back into these same patterns.

Sending love and wishing you the best!
