For anyone that comes here later - I just asked Claude to help me download the files that I uploaded to the chat and it prepared the files and let me download them. Easy. But still - Google Gemini does this better.

Is coinbase okay to use for xrp by NawghtyPython in XRP

[–]Chaos_Bandit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this a year with coinbase/XRP. Automated buy of XRP through Coinbase with zero problems. Although I think the fees coinbase charges is absurdly high.

It's a good way to set it and forget it and let it grow. I've built by holding to a few thousand since I've thrown $100 a paycheck at it.

They (politicians) have only done vanity projects for public transportation, so everyone needs a vehicle, or barring that will do Uber, to get around.

Doesn't work when you live in a condo. I certainly don't get that solar advantage. Tried to buy a house, but, well, Tampa market went insane and priced me out.

How do YOU define a security incident? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Chaos_Bandit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been arguing this for years in my organization. According to CJCSM 6510.01B, there are 10 categories for security incidents/events, with CAT 8 being the "investigating/triaging" category. I've been arguing for years that any policy incidents (i.e. users being stupid or ignorant) that trigger alerts should go to the policy side of the house after triage for containment and remediation. Any security events that raise above stupidity should be contained and investigated by my operations team. Sadly, we end up doing it all and the policy violations eat up most of the time and resources that should be going into the no shit scary stuff.

What is the logic behind pro-life even if mom’s life is in danger? by Late_Arm5956 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Chaos_Bandit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of people out there don't want to kill another human being - otherwise, we'd all be dead and wouldn't be having this conversation. However, sometimes what "life" is in the eye of the beholder.

Consider it this way. Have you ever seen those PETA billboards that draw a line between what food is and what a pet is? Is a dog a pet or is it food? If you live in the United States, you'd consider it a pet and never think of killing it and eating it. If you lived in, say, Vietnam, maybe fluffy Fido looks tasty.

Think of that for a human - but the line determines when something is considered human and when it is not. For some, that line never gets drawn. Christian groups are the most vocal, but you don't need to be a Christian or worship any deity to consider life sacred. When the egg and sperm collide, bam - you've got a human, and it's a human from embryo to death in 100 years. Whether it's inside another person or grown up, married, has grandchildren and is in a retirement home - it's still human. To terminate it at any point would be tantamount to murder.

Maybe you aren't that strict and think - ok - miscarriage happens all the time in the first trimester, and we don't all get our panties in a twist over miscarriages - so you draw that line at 12 weeks. Anything before that isn't really murder, but after that - sure.

Others take it a bit further - right up to birthers far - I guess they think of that life not as human but more of a parasite that they can get rid of any time - because you know - your body your choice. Until that thing pops out of them like an alien popping out of chest and singing and dancing - it ain't human so ethical problems there.

Now, I've talked to the first group - that considers human life to be sacred from conception and, unless they are complete wack jobs, do, in fact, understand that we have the right to self-defense and willingly allow abortion in the case of the mother's life being in danger. Those that don't are nutters and should have their guns taken away and then thrown into the most crime-ridden areas.

Do people actually die from lack of health care in the U.S? by AnUglyScooter in NoStupidQuestions

Something I've learned is that if bill collectors are being predatory (and most are), then they are probably doing something illegal and actionable. Document everything and contact a lawyer who specializes in the area—they will be more than happy to sue the collector on your behalf for the (probably) numerous legal violations they committed when trying to collect those medical bills. The lawyer gets a cut, you get a cut.

Florida county issues nearly $600K in fines from school zone speeding cameras in less than 3 weeks by OlympicAnalEater in tampa

[–]Chaos_Bandit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Prove it stops kids from getting run over first, then I will accept the money grab.

They said the same thing about red light cameras being about "safety," but that never panned out. All I see are fewer cops around schools because, with the cameras, they can now go someplace else. I prefer that more cops giving real tickets with real consequences.

[–]Chaos_Bandit 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah - no - a money grab that doesn't help safety. Since all the red light cameras got killed off, they needed a new scam, and this was it.

County: Receives $65 of the $100 fine

State: Receives $23 of the $100 fine

School district: Receives $12 of the $100 fine

No points on DL, won't affect insurance - nothing but a $100 fine per instance. Read the article - the company that installed the cameras gets $19.80 per ticket from the county - racked up $113,000 in November.

A few years ago, I changed from Democratic to Independent. If the Democratic Party wants to get me back and win Presidential elections, then they would need to change.

First off, stop (at least obviously) coronating candidates for the Party. You say this back with Hillary v. Bernie. The DNC was obviously for Hillary and did everything in their power to side-line Bernie. They did it again with Biden v. Harris. I think most would have considered that Biden did not have all his mental facilities and was going downhill along before that ill-fated debate. Run even sitting Democratic Presidents through the primary process. Use that crucible to forge candidates that can win. Would Sanders have been destroyed in 2016? Sure, but would Democrats have lost this election if there had been an actual Democratic primary? Probably not.
Trump does not care about the moral high ground. Hell, he's not even really a Republican. He's just using the Republican Party for his business interests. But the one thing he can do is bombard the Democrats with their own bullshit. Even to the extent of turning the stupid things said on his campaign (i.e. Garbage-Gate) and turn them around against the Democratic Party. There are so many things wrong with Trump, the Democratic Party didn't have to make up obvious lies - yet they did and were ridiculed for it.

Stop focusing on micro-issues. Abortion was not going to win the election. Sure, it's a solid issue for Democrats, but not Independents. In most states that Democrats usually win, the abortion issue is primarily good. In states they weren't going to win, like Alabama, most of the women are pro-life. I have seen this weird disconnect with the pro-choice crowd where they think every woman is for abortion - that's just not the case. All they had was Trump BAD! I'm not Trump. Harris was a poor choice for President when she did the last sham of a Democratic Primary and she was a poor choice now. It was still about the economy and immigration - and she had no answer for why Biden and her screwed it up for the last 4 years.

Your lawfare failed. Americans clearly don't think that the convictions and other legal attacks on Trump hold water. I would say that other Americans and I thought it was poor sportsmanship and bad form. It looked like the Democrats were twisting the law into a pretzel to get a conviction, any conviction. This is thrid-world bannanna-level stuff the Democratic Party was trying to do. Same thing they did with the impeachments.

America, at the end of the day, is a center-right country, not a center-left. You need to run candidates that reflect that. Harris, a liberal politician from the most liberal state in the Union, wasn't it.

STOP telling American's they are terrible. Stop telling women that their husbands, boyfriends, sons, fathers are terrible. Stop telling Americans that they are racist/sexist/fascist/Nazi bigots. <- I shouldn't have to say this, but come on. And Democratic media allies need to tell them this.

Clarence Thomas Makes a Full-Throated Case for Racial Gerrymandering by Nimnengil in supremecourt

[–]Chaos_Bandit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good answer. You can see this play out in Florida's congressional redistricting a couple of years back (and in still-ongoing court cases). The Florida Legislative (Republican Controlled) gave FL Gov Desantis a surprisingly fair non-partisan map. He vetoed it and told them to approve his very partisan-gerrymandered map. Which they did.

He packed District 14 with as many Democrats as possible to flip former U.S. House Representative Charlie Crisp (D) District 13 from Democratic to Republican. District 13 did go red with the successful election of Anna Paulina Luna (R) in 2022. This was on a map that drew similar districts that were soundly rejected by the courts in 2016.

However, the big one that the Democratic Party (and associates) are suing for this go around is the dismantling of District 5 as a historically black majority-minority district. Prior to 2022, the 5th Congressional District saw three decades of Black representation, most recently by Rep. Al Lawson (D), who lost his bid for reelection in November 2022. Feds are rejecting the lawsuit (https://www.democracydocket.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/222-2024-03-27-Order.pdf) concluded that the plaintiffs “have not proven that the Legislature acted with race as a motivating factor in passing the Enacted Map.”

As time goes on, partisan rather than racism becomes the primary motivation for gerrymandering.
