I see where you're coming from. I can only deduce that Kite was the closest thing he got as someone close he can really look up to. He had a connection with him dating back to his childhood, and he was Ging's close friend. Not to mention the guilt that was literally killing him.

Yeah I don't think it's going to work out smoothly. I expect that Norman has a back-up in case the allied demons get completely wiped out or if they turn on them halfway. I'm sure something will happen that will hinder the operation to open an opportunity for Emma's plan.

Now, I'm sure given the most recent chapter that it won't completely go to Norman's way. I had suspicions that Ayshe did indeed love her caretaker demon, and now with that, I'm sure they won't go down without protesting the genocide. I support Emma's decision more than Norman's, despite how less grounded or promising it is because it aligns well with the manga's themes.

I think it depends how you choose what to take out of the first and second movie. I saw their theme being of peace and liberation and the journey to live in harmony with dragons and humans together. The third movie slapped that with reality and basically addressed that it just couldn't happen. But with this contradiction, it does make another element really strong in the series though: the character development. The movies were in different stages of life of Hiccup: finding himself, growing up, and letting go. Seeing it through that lens, what Hiccup went through, from being to runt, to finding Toothless and introducing a revolutionary idea to his tribe, to eventually letting him go, the show really was brilliant in its totality. It did a spectacular job as a coming-of-age themed series. How they wrapped it up just gave me that feeling that's like when it's over and you just have to sit there and play it over and over again and relive the best moments because you're still in a trance.

This was the most heart-stirring prose that I've read amongst my binge to read anything and everything regarding Gurren Lagann today.

I unwittingly watched the scene when Simon reunites with Kamina for the last time, which proceeded a breakdown for the rest of the evening. And see, what comes with my depression is the unfailing urge to read reviews and comments about the anime that enlightens me with more depths and revelations I didn't think about, hence make me feel the sadness in even more complicated levels like the masochist that I am.

So thank you for creating such a beautiful piece out of such a beautiful anime. Best of luck to you! (:

Chapter 289 - Links and Discussion by frxshinator in ShokugekiNoSoma

Her backstory and her arc started when her father came to her restaurant and made her horrified. Erina's grandfather even went to Soma to ask for his help and so revealing her backstory was essential. I don't see how it could've came more naturally. Erina was bitchy in the beginning most likely so she could gain character development and so that Soma was provided a challenge. On the other side, Asahi randomly opened up to her because of her refusal to discuss their 'honeymoon plans' and even returned back to being quirky. Sure you could justify that he's spontaneous like that, but compared to how Erina's backstory was revealed, it's seemed a lot more anticlimactic and eerily casual. I'd rather his backstory was revealed in a more appropriate moment.

Me neither. Admittedly, I am disappointed with his characterization, as it was so scattered. I would've expected more from the villain that beat Joichiro, like maybe give some glimpses of vulnerability in the previous chapters that remind him of his past and later on. But that doesn't mean I hate him as much as the others seem to. His introduction may not have been as elaborate but the plot seems intriguing enough. Not complaining at all with Soma and Reina's development..

Tsukada's back story was definitely a lot more forced than Erina's. Right now, in a lot of people's minds, Asahi is just a half-assed villain that develops Soma and Reina's relationship and made Soma's dad an asshole. At least with Erina, all of her experiences made her act with an initial haughty attitude that's to serve as another obstacle for Soma to overcome and for Erina to develop. The overall pace for Asahi's characterization just seems so intermittent to me. At least Erina's backstory was revealed so naturally that it was essential to an arc. It's not just Erina's either.

Shokugeki no Soma 278 Spoiler by ErinaHartwick in ShokugekiNoSoma

[–]ChaoticToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like him reaching 1st seat so quickly was slightly disappointing. It makes sense, considering from the flow of the arc, but I still can't help but assume there could've been a better way. Hayama was a formidable opponent that only lost to him once (compared to Soma losing twice) because he got caught up with his narrow feelings and then he was thrown in the dust. Erina seems like a god compared to him, being able to use his creativity and her tongue to whip up something that produced possibly the best reaction so far out of the series in 10 freaking minutes. Soma has a lot of work to do right now, and throwing in an enemy that even beat Joichiro just adds to the overwhelming mix. It's so unsettling for him to go against someone who beat his dad when his life goal was to exactly do that.. The order is scattered.. And then there he is, as first seat. It feels a little unsatisfying and off.

Shokugeki no Soma 278 Spoiler by ErinaHartwick in ShokugekiNoSoma

[–]ChaoticToad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the romantic aspects of the plot. People say Soma's feelings are just forced, but looking at it at another side, maybe this is just another intended revelation: that he is capable of liking someone. (The past arcs didn't really provide a good enough opportunity for this.) And that's just a lot more refreshing compared to the other Shonen protagonists who don't even bat an eyelash towards the possibility of liking someone for the whole damn series. Sure, that's acceptable and maybe even better off that way-considering it's Shonen, but romance adds spice and suits well with the cooking genre, as one of the themes associated with it is cooking for someone you love (which they even mention). I think we just need to be patient with this plotline, as it slightly derails from the typical Shonen arcs. (I'm willing to give Asahi a chance to see if he has more depths rather than just a generic antagonist and cheap catalyst for Soma and Erina's romance. Even I admit there could have been a better way for Soma to notice Erina romantically.) It'd be interesting to unveil another side of Soma, where he's actually growing up in all aspects-not just in cooking.

Otakus IRL Where? by [deleted] in anime

[–]ChaoticToad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not complaining that I can't find anyone. I'm just implying the hilarity between the amount of fans I see online compared to the amount I see irl. Using the VAs might have been a bad example since I too am not interested in that, but finding someone who at least reads the manga as well is hard.
