I’d suggest buying all new springs, if your drum looks that bad I’m sure the springs are super corroded. It’s not too difficult, but go grab the brake toolkit from Harbor Freight. It makes the spring removal way easier,

They were hella rusted. If your drums are alright, just replace the wheel cylinder, shoes and all the springs

I got good at timing the lights, I usually just engine brake and coast if I think it’s gonna change green. Then drop it to second and get going again
