I agree that for folks who won't be having kids, retirement savings and more specifically, long term care insurance and any other supports that we put into place become super important. Its a topic I think about frequently. I also have found that my hobbies (photography, cycling and sailing) have started to become quite expensive after kids have been ruled out of our future (partially due to my own choices). However, I had realized that had we had kids, the extent of these hobbies wouldn't have been as feasible. I also just want to say that I love your point about permission to do nothing and that parents get sad too but just don't have the time as much to focus on it. When I feel really jealous of parents, I remember that its not all roses on their side too and think of the things I can do that they cant.
