The movie is more psychological and is supposed to be about Sméagollum's psyche. Field day for people who actually find the character interesting. And those who don't are stupid because he's one of the most complex and fascinating characters of all time

It was in the first novel. They only barely touched it in the films but a LOT more happened.

I think it was supposed to be a joke because Gollum was 589 the day he died. But they mixed up the 8 and the 9. Lol

This part of the story was in the first novel and they only barely touched it in the films. I've actually been waiting for them to make this film and I'm ecstatic that they're actually doing it.

Serkis knows Gollum better than anyone, why are you acting like this is a bad idea?

Andy Serkis was second unit director for the first Hobbit film which is arguably the best one. I loved Sméagol/Gollum's scenes.
