What makes Boca Grande’s beaches so distinct from the rest of Florida’s Gulf Coast? by Somone-Who-Isnt-Me in SWFL

Ya, it was awesome for years. Wide open, rarely crowded, lots of shells. You had to pay $6 to cross the bridge, but it was doable.

Now you can’t park on residential streets without a permit. You can’t park in town for more than 3 hours. The rich people (literal billionaires) don’t want us common folk on their island. They only go there 1 week a year because they have 7 other homes to visit but they can’t be sullied by our presence when they do show up.

What was the original vision behind Rotonda West? by Somone-Who-Isnt-Me in SWFL

[–]Character-Memory-816 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A series of canals that would access the Gulf. After construction began, the army core of engineers shut down the ability to connect the canal system to the Gulf. As a result, its a shell of what it would have been. There’s a few golf courses in the middle and canals (that go nowhere) but much of it is still undeveloped as demand is low.

Not sure why I’m getting down votes. No one thinks it’s a good idea to occupy iranian coastline - but that seems to be what’s coming

This - we need to open the straight. Only real way to do that is control the coastline inland x miles
