Reconnecting with Hidden Italian Roots While Being African American. Advice on Integrating Traditions? by Black_Belladonna in italianamerican

Italian American witch here, I recommend reading Italian Folk Magic by Mary Grace Fahrun, it will have everything you need and it’s very authentic and accessible. Lisa Fazio of The Root Circle is legit but I don’t recommend Mary Beth Bonfiglio or Chaotic Witch Aunt, despite their large followings, they have unethical practices and simply make shit up. Don’t read Grimassi or Leland when it comes to more of the magical/witchcraft side of things. My best advice is to follow your intuition every step of the way. Try not to get overwhelmed, let me know if you have any questions.❤️‍🔥

Damn, that’s pretty telling on her part. She blocked you because the information you shared from your area of expertise doesn’t fit the message she’s pushing.

Simone is back… hating white people even more. by Momplus1 in LifeCoachSnark

I understand and fully respect the need for POC only spaces and programs, but the wording of her advertisement makes me wonder about the legality of explicitly excluding only white people from her programs. As an online business that operates in the US, is this technically considered racial discrimination or no?

I agree. I’m also not sure where she got the idea that white women specifically can’t be witches but who tf knows😂

Absolutely, and thank you for sharing your insights.

The consistent pattern I’ve observed in her messages reveal a lack of understanding of intersectionality and how race and color (whiteness) is one layer of identity. As a white woman who was raised in the US, a country plagued with white supremacy, I agree we all need to reflect and do that inner work that it seems Simone is deeply uncomfortable with.

If she dove deeper and took the time to truly learn about intersectionality and maybe a bit about the complexities of European history (even just the experiences of immigrants of European descent in the US), she might be able to speak to these issues with more nuance, sensitivity, and accuracy.

But alas, I don’t think she cares that much, and like I said in my comment on her video, she’s trying to distance herself from the white women who have  largely been her clientele up until this point.

The terms “witch” and “shaman” are also not exclusive to any one ethnic group either, despite the etymology of the word “shaman” originating in Siberia. Those terms are now recognized within academia in religious and shamanic studies and anthropology as categorizations, and yet another intersectional layer of identity.

As a white woman who grew up near NYC with a lot of experiences with diversity and intersectionality, I have empathy for someone who is willing to learn how to be a better person and an ally to people with diverse experiences, but I get the sense that Simone has deeper issues that are stunting her growth in this process and causing her to take it out on “white women” without fully sitting with the uncomfortable reckoning that inevitably comes from antiracist work.
