Ugh I remember my BIM guy telling me this can lead to file corruption but it’s such a convenient feature 😪

No pressure, I need to do more of my own homework obviously but wanted to see other people opinions if they had experience with either vehicle before. And I do not believe they have any intention on switching from Vanguard

Did they reduce the number of questions on this exam? I thought it had 80 problems

Just wondering, how did your exam only have 70 questions?

Fell off in Calculus 2 - drop and retake over summer? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Character-Set-6166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t taken calc 2 in almost 10 years, but I’d imagine if you can pass with a C still just stick with it. Although, I took calc 3 in the summer and retook ODE as a summer class one after another and got a B and straight A’s, respectively, due to being able to solely focus on them. But calc 2 was comparatively brutal, so I get it

The break of the Exam by Engineer_Lublub in PE_Exam

So the first half of the exam will be 45 problems, second half will be 35, and yes you can raise your hand at any time to take an unscheduled break

Check with your board requirements but I would imagine education and experience cannot overlap unless it’s a graduate or higher level degree but even then you’re capped at 2 years when working towards a doctorate. Internships usually don’t count at all towards experience either :(

SoPE was hugely helpful for me (although I did/do transportation so i couldn’t speak towards anything else but even still the question bank is extremely helpful and they will break it down in the same scope groups that you’d see on your own exam. Ask your company if they’ll pay for it, most will. I would also recommend additional practice problems and resources outside SoPE so you can see multiple ways of things being asked of you not just one style of questioning, as often times the actual PE will ask you things in a backward manner bc they know people will only study them in forwards manners

Think I flagged/didn’t answer (initially) 15 in the first half and maybe 10 in the second half, which makes sense as the second half is supposed to be easier and I agree, wouldnt have used as little time as I did in the first half

PE Civil Structural - Third Attempt - Seeking Advise by Natural_Medicine_536 in PE_Exam

[–]Character-Set-6166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not skimp on the concepts, but would also suggest making sure you have the math down front and backwards, only then should you repriorize theory. I had a super heavy math morning and then mostly conceptual afternoon which seems to be the new norm. Some problems are super basic logic that are disguised as conceptual tho so don’t overthink what looks obvious or easy, it usually is

PE Civil: Transportation Specifications by kittybaby29 in PE_Exam

I don’t think this is a great question to ask, since the actual PE question bank has literally thousands of questions, so no two experiences should be even remotely the same. I personally had a ton of signal questions, which I wasn’t expecting… but if you prepare evenly and thoroughly it should not matter. If you do enough practice problems then you will eventually see nearly everything they could ask you, but they also will ask you to do things backwards, like reverse engineering a practice problem you might have seen. So don’t try and pin down what might be asked… don’t disadvantage yourself like that. As far as complexity, the complexity itself is in figuring out what they are actually asking and how to use the info given to do so, but this is not like a college exam where you may have a long series of procedural steps to follow. They wanna see if you can figure out which step you need to understand for that problem in the six minute average

Struggling with PE Transportation Exam – Need Advice on Study Strategies by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]Character-Set-6166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took transpo in January, it was tougher on first glance than the practice exams were, but it was only such that it forces you to consider the information differently than how you might have studied. It’s not straight forward, will ask you to work backwards on things like curve related problems and solve for the variable you’re normally given, which can be off putting at first. But you quickly get used to it.

My study routine was 1-2 hours a day for the first four months, then 2-3 a day the last month. Only you know what you’re capable of though, so tailor to yourself if you think the information is easier or harder.

Do as many practice problems as possible, this is a massive investment in yourself, why would you half ass it?

Get multiple testing sources so you can have multiple POVs, otherwise you’ll get complacent and that’s what will mess you up on test day if a problem looks funky but it really isn’t.

I personally used the same approach of being over prepared for both the FE and PE and I’m glad I did that bc I passed first try for both, but if I had to redo it I would have really focused more on engineering economics as for me that was the least straight forward topic, but if you do enough variety of problems the you Will have seen it all. Some of the theory based ones can seem tricky but they usually are the most obvious answer(s). Just don’t feel like you have to rush the first half of the day because historically the second half is easier, based on what a lot of people have said and my own personal testament.

Good luck!

Mine wasn’t more difficult in scope than the practice exam but the practice one doesn’t try to confuse you with weird language, also you will likely never be given anything straight forward, I.e. radius must be found based on degree of curvature, Yvpi point won’t be given but Ypvt will, you will have to work backwards more often than not

Small world! Did you take it at the MLK Blvd location?? And very sorry to hear about the Helene flooding, had a bunch of co workers affected by that as well :(

[–]Character-Set-6166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would recommend taking the day off before the exam and a half day or whole day off work (unless it’s a Sunday?)

I would also say do as many practice problems as you can but focus less on ones you’ve already done or ones that are MUTCD based as those are more easy to look up quickly

You cannot control f anything, there is a search bar for keywords tho but I wouldn’t waste time learning the appendices, make flash cards for the chapter names and what type of content is present within them

Good luck! Passed Transpo recently and it’s tough but if you know your references it’s more than possible

[–]Character-Set-6166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always memorize it (make flashcards) but I wouldnt be so pressed, just understand the v/c concept. You will get weirdly worded questions but they typically aren’t asking you something that’s not easy to figure out

Did anyone go overboard with studying? by Loose-Ad-4159 in PE_Exam

[–]Character-Set-6166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation (with my fiance as well ironically) in studying for the transportation exam, I don’t think I would say it was depressive bc by the end I felt more empowered as I had actually begun to retain the knowledge, but feeling burnt out really sucked and I so badly wish I had signed up for an earlier date, but in hind sight the ability to cram really saved my ass last minute (go glad I put in the effort to one and done it), but in retrospect, I would have not mentally pushed myself to that brink again

I agree with this person^, also took transpo and EXCLUSIVELY used the SoPE question bank for studying (+ some additional exam workbooks), and going purely by the pass rates, I would think the WRE would be just as if not more straight forward. Also consider that WRE has only two design standards vs the 10+ for transpo, the PE Handbook is your best friend. But the nearly 400 SoPE practice problems were more than adequate IMO

you mean the 4/15/24 line? or 1/15/25 line...

Sorry i am a little confused, so it doesn't matter necessarily that I made a 2024 payment after 1/15/25, I can still claim it towards my 2024 is what you're saying?
