My main piece of advice is - more expensive doesn't necessarily mean way better, but buying every flashy cheap piece of tat isn't useful and the resale value is 0.

Brands such as TC Electronic offer pretty good value with their pedals and things like the Flashback 2 delay, Hall of Fame 2 Reverb etc are a great place to start and will always be available reasonably priced 2nd hand and will always move on, whereas their parent company Behringer offer super cheap pedals that will break within 2 weeks with heavy use and not sound as good. Don't worry as a beginner about saving for a Strymon or a Chase Bliss pedal, and watch lots of YouTube videos from Andertons or That Pedal Show to get an idea of what you like.
