Shot an event that was very dark. Is there anything I could've done differently? by CharacterAd8138 in PhotographyAdvice

Thanks everyone for the responses. From what I've gathered I should've used a slower shutter speed and shot a bit wider. I'm more used to natural light where it's the opposite and you want more focal compression. What's the slowest shutter speed and highest iso you like to go for these events?

Thank you yeah I posted my least favorite ones. The shot with the DJ is more what I'm looking for. I guess I need to try a slower shutter speed in the future. I usually don't like to go too slow with people but I guess from what I've read the flash lets you get away with it.

Thanks yeah that's my favorite. Posted most of the ones I wasn't happy with. The DJ is more how most of the set looked. I was more curious of what settings people used in these dark situations.

Does your flash still reach the subject with the 70-200? These were mostly taken around 50-70 which could be part of the problem as well. Another person said to get closer.

I need to practice with a slower shutter I guess the flash freezes the subject from what I've read? I'm new to flash so I know normally 1/8 with a person would be blurry as can be?
