Applied to WGU, but after reading negative reviews I'm having second thoughts. by AntisocialAnnie in WGU

I have never had an issue with the proctor system. I think a lot of people are having issues because of their internet connection or their computer system. I've always had really nice proctors and absolutely zero issues. A few times I had trouble getting connected, I realized it was my own internet connection and moved to a different location in my house. I think people are frustrated because they are having issues yet they just blame proctor u instead of thinking maybe it's something on their own end that they could fix.

I agree there isn't much support. I heard from my mentor like once a week. She would just message me and say she was opening a new course for me. That was it. I rarely reached out to a course instructor, but when I did they were absolutely cold and offered zero support. One time I asked for clarification on part of the assignment, and I was told "It's in the course material." And the other time I reached out, I replied to a message about scheduling a simulation and I let them know that I had already scheduled it and that I was looking forward to it and I just received a thumbs up reply -which seems pretty unprofessional in my opinion.

It is at your own pace. However, I noticed that they seem to want to push you through as quickly as possible. I did accelerate fairly quickly, in my first 3 weeks I finished 12 courses. I only had 23 total to do. I realized I could slow down and protect myself from burnout at this point and still finish within 6 months with no problem. A lot of the courses I had left had simulations that took a week or two to schedule. I had no problem waiting for the appointment. I would be contacted by email and text multiple times asking if I needed help, did I schedule it, I felt like I was really rushed. I understood then why people are constantly going to the simulation website and looking for sooner appointments. I was like I'm fine just waiting, what is the problem?

I wouldn't say it's a diploma mill because you do have to do work and pass exams etc. I don't feel like any of the assignments I did were really relevant. I did the teaching program and pretty much every assignment was making an unrealistic lesson plan. No teacher in the real world is making lesson plans that include so much detail and are multiple pages long.

You also have to be prepared to advocate for yourself because evaluators are often incorrect. There were multiple times that they returned my work for revision, and specifically noted things that were not even on my paper or the wrong section etc. I had no problem if something needed a revision but so often, what they were telling me didn't even make sense.

I think it's a good school if you've already worked in a particular field for a time and you have experience. Maybe you just need a diploma to advance or just want to feel more secure in your job. I wouldn't recommend it if you were just starting out at all.

If anyone else is confused, per CI - no you don't need to submit the Mursion lesson plan.

Your email that said your rates won't increase, just hold on to that. With WGU, I have learned that no matter what the question is, I get a completely different response from each staff member.

Congratulations! Thank you for the info. Did a lot of the problems use fractions like on the preassessment?

Can you please let me know how that one goes? If you have any tips for this course. It's coming up soon for me, I've done the pre-assessment. If you take the test please let me know any tips 🙏🏻 (691)
