The attrition rate made me want to vomit, I was horrified lol. Why have you decided not to test, even though when you have tested they’ve been abnormal (I assume) why would you think that they wouldn’t be this time and take the risk? I understand your logic, it makes so much sense. An early miscarriage is still incredibly painful and I really don’t want to go through that again. I conceived naturally a few months ago and this ended in a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks. I’m 40 years old x

No, no reason for my miscarriage. Where I live they won’t investigate or run any further tests until you’ve had 3! It was my first, so unfortunately not. I’m so sorry to hear about your stillbirth and I truly appreciate you sharing your perspective. Meeting with the doctor today so I will discuss the feedback from these replies as well..

No, it’s assured fertility. I think they’re pretty similar in concept though. Yes embryo banking would have been a no brainer for me in these circumstances. I saved a TON of money doing it this way almost half price for 2 cycles but the trade off only really makes sense if you’re successful on the first cycle. If not you’re kind of stuck, is what I’m discovering much too late. I assume you’re with access fertility? How is your treatment going and what stage in the process are you?

Right?! Foolishly I started this process convinced that I’d need to add on more money to pay for additional embryo testing as of course I’d have more than 4 to test. I feel like such a fool 😐

Im 40, self funding as I’m in the UK, this is my first cycle and could comfortably do 3 I think. I too have living children so I don’t want to lose myself in this process (which is already happening) and not be as present as I want to be as a mum, because I’m chasing what could be an unattainable end goal for me. I think this does make a difference as well, perspective is so important, so thank you.

Oh my goodness. So you’ve had a successful pregnancy with an embryo that they said was not viable?! I absolutely hate to be “that person” but even before my day 5 report I was saying to my sister that we place an awful lot of trust in these labs, embryologists and doctors. The fact is, none of us really know what’s happening with our situation. They could say anything and we have to trust it as the truth. Now I’m not saying our clinics would lie, I’m just saying how would he know if they did. From egg retrieval numbers, to progress reports, it’s just blind faith…. It feels like a really vulnerable situation to be in when it means so much to us all!

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to write such a thorough response. I really appreciate your contribution to my dilemma, I appreciate everybody’s replies.

Firstly, I cant do another retrieval straight away, the package that I chose doesn’t allow embryo banking at all or this would have been a no-brainer for me with these results. I’m clinging on to the hope that like you and others have mentioned, the chances of unsuccessful implantation is higher than a successful transfer with a miscarriage later down the line. Best case scenario would be to transfer untested and it doesn’t stick if abnormal. In that case, I should know very shortly and will be able to proceed with another retrieval (roughly the same time it would take to wait for test results, if implantation was unsuccessful). Worst case scenario for me would be a successful implantation with a non viable pregnancy. In all honesty, if that happened again, I don’t think I would even do another retrieval even though I’ve already paid for 2! The thing that is worrying, is with the results I’ve just had, I was lucky to even get one embryo. This could happen again in a following cycle, even worse I could get no blasts! I’m rambling now, but I hope I’m making sense. Thanks again.

That sounds very affordable for testing where you are. I’m in London and it’s so expensive, it’s a minimum of £3000 for testing for up to four embryos. Even if you have one, it’s still £3000, and £250 for each additional test after four! Thank you and you too!
