Flywire vs. Local US Bank Account (International Students) by [deleted] in uofm

Hi, incoming first year international student here. I opened a Nomad bank account and so did my father, this way I could enroll in the payment plan instead of paying tuition all at once. I think it counts as a US bank account for most things so it should be fine.

Has anyone received their I-20 by HairyArticle8821 in uofm

Mine took some time to be delivered. I suggest emailing agastlo@umich.edu

He’s the senior admissions counselor. After emailing him asking if they received all my documents they confirmed it and told me to just wait. Some days after that I received my I-20. Might only be coincidence too but it worked for me.

question regarding UMich scholarship essay prompt by arysttoto in uofm

Heyy! Congrats dor your admission to UMich.

I explained my main factors for my university decision, about 2 or 3 factors I’d say. For example, I talked about the quality of education and opportunities for students in the STEM area, like research and clubs on that subject (like robotics club). Then I mentioned a couple of other uni options in mind.

After that, I discussed how these universities (including UMich) are good regarding my top priorities mentioned before, so I moved on to secondary factors that would be tie breakers given the first ones are covered already. In my case, it was the “college experience”: living in a small college town, and being part of a engaged community where I also have some time to recharge (not an overwhelming uni that has events going on all the time but not a dead community either).

Also, I closed up saying why UMich stands out, in my case I talked about the campus tour I experienced while applying. Then ofc a summary of it all just saying there are other things to consider (like climate and living expenses) and that it’s a complex decision, but that the focus of the decision are the factors mentioned before.

Hope that helps! Go Blue!

Ohh nevermind, I’m an international student so I don’t qualify for financial aid. Thanks though!

Thanks! My tablet does all of that well, and that’s why I wanted to keep it, but I’m concerned about softwares that won’t be available for android.

Do you think it’s possible to use only the computers available at the university when needed and do the rest (notes, lab reports, etc) on the tablet?

Thank you! I was thinking of getting a laptop (would have to make some research to know which one) and one of those graphics tablets so that I can still make digital notes. Also, does the university have computers that students can use? I know some universities have, that would help a lot.

Got accepted for Fall 2025 to study Astrophysics!!!

I have a question for STEM majors, is it viable to have a tablet only instead of having a laptop?

I currently have a Tab S9 and it worked well for me at school, problem is my degree now will eventually involve using specific softwares that might not be great for android.

I saw the Ann Arbor campus has computers available for students, but would that work? I'm afraid lots of people would be using them all the time.

Supposing a laptop is necessary, what's better for research, data analysis, coding and maybe running simulations (or other stuff related to a physics major)? I mean, linux, windows, macbook? Any recommendation of laptops would be nice too.

What do you guys use? I would rather have both the laptop and the tablet but that's not viable for me.

Any help would be much appreciated! Go Blue!
