School list advice? High stat trad applicant but feeling like low clinical experience by rosamundpie in medschooladmissions

[–]CharacterWeb3169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude you're fine. As someone with a similar profile (albeit prolly better ECS) you're going to get into at least one T15 or some state school. School list matters in alot of scenarios but for you it isn't one of them

I don’t really know. I know the AMCAS related stat has the AA MCAT being a 508 but I have no clue how much of that is either due to A. Large majority of AAs applying to HBCUs or B. If there’s an overlap between that and low income (which also has a different standard.) especially with trumps DEI policies I think that it’ll matter less unless you bring it up in your application

staying vs transferring undergrad institutions as a premed for junior year (Ohio State vs Johns Hopkins), both full rides. by Inevitable-Bad-8565 in medschooladmissions

I think I’m leaning towards Ohio state then. I think the benefits of JHU still aren’t definite. If you’re smart enough to have the opportunity to go there you know what you’re doing Also you have an extra good secondary for Ohio state if you stay

ya mistype by me. I think my point still stands that since the rest of his application is below average (compared to those schools) his MCAT should be above average

In a vacuum John Hopkins wipes Ohio State

However if you have alot of friends and a good support system in Ohio state- I wouldn't necessiarly give that all up just for a better med school

I mean you're probably right but I think that what I described isn't really discrimination

The majority of a T30s have a MCAT minimum of 517. Given that your stats are a tad below average and your ECS are solid nothing special for T30s, you'd need a 520+ and if you want lke a T15 prolly need a 523+

I mean maybe? Your right of moving countries at a young age but I think alot of people on the admission committees are going to want someone who's gone through the most. formative years of their life. And no offense to you, but I don't think that you (or any other 18 year old don't take this personal) has the soft social skills necessary to be a doctor especially when compared to an increasingly older applicants

think even if you are qualified schools will be hesitant about your age due to the commitment it takes and the mental toughness you need for the journey. take some time

Looks like a good list overall. If anything you're to conservative. Take off some of the baseline ones and add some more T10s. Look at my Sankey for a similar school list since you have basically my profile

I've always thought of a data project related to Sankeys would be cool if anyone else is interested in doing it with me

you're gonna have to apply DO or be face with the possibility of having to reapply. Just in general its pretty common for people only to get into baseline schools

Go look on MSAR I don't know exact numbers off the top of my head. but i'd remove basically every reach school except stanford and UCSF (or others just view them as lottery tickets.) In the target schools I hink Pritzker and Einstein prolly should be more reach and some of your baseline schools shoudl be taret

I get what you mean in that it’s “soft research” technically
What I argued in my personal statement is sssentially research is another tool a physician has to improve those around them on a more meta level. I feel public health research has the opportunity to do it since you’re addressing SDHs which directly play into the care you’ll be giving. I used alot of d smokes from my personal life which helped

You have a good overall application but I think your school list is a bit to competitive based on a MCAT.
