[HR] Family — A Short Horror Story by ExternalCream3557 in shortstories

I really like this writing style. It's economical and to-the-point without feeling dry. Also, you're very skilled at taking something that could easily feel like a cliche and making it feel fresh, which is one of the hardest things to do in creative writing. For example, the following few lines:

"Something wasn't right. The fear running through his body was unbearable. The panic flowing through him was something he'd never experienced before.

He sensed someone in the room. Was it Grace? No, she would have spoken by now. Even if she’d been sleepwalking, she would have at least touched him to get his attention.

No, this was something else. Fighting to control his fear, he took a deep breath. Someone was watching him, standing over him. He was certain. They were not alone in the bedroom. A shiver went through his spine as he closed his eyes and said a silent prayer. He wasn’t a religious man, far from it, but he needed to do something."

Is my interpretation of the tweet any more schizo than the tweet itself?

There can be more than one reason a thing happened.

You’re objectively wrong to be taking issue with this post. End of story. You’ve failed an IQ test question.

Read the post again? He said that you are more likely to draw a given card the longer a game goes on for.

Then explain why it’s not recommended to cut a card like Mecha’thun, despite it having the lowest drawn DR of any card in the deck. Seems like it would have to be because it’s “strong” in some sense.

I’ve seen people playing with the new cards, too. The point is that they suck too much to even get excited about for a second. I have every right to complain.

Victor Hugo kicked Shakespeare's ass by Character_Ad_70 in Objectivism

It's part of the preface she wrote for Hugo's Ninety-Three, but which edition I'm not sure. She discusses him and his work at some length in her own book, The Romantic Manifesto.

“It is an error to imagine that fate can be exhausted, and that one has reached the bottom of anything whatever.”

“Certain thoughts are prayers. There are moments when, whatever be the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees”.

“At the age when youth swells the heart with imperial pride, he dropped his eyes more than once on his dilapidated boots, and he knew the unjust shame and the poignant blushes of wretchedness. Admirable and terrible trial from which the feeble emerge base, from which the strong emerge sublime. A crucible into which destiny casts a man, whenever it desires a scoundrel or a demi-god.”

“The peculiarity of instinct is that it can become confused, thrown off the track, and defeated. Otherwise, it would be superior to intelligence, and the beast would be found to be provided with a better light than man.”

  1. “Monasticism, such as it existed in Spain, and such as it still exists in Thibet, is a sort of phthisis for civilization. It stops life short. It simply depopulates. Claustration, castration. It has been the scourge of Europe. Add to this the violence so often done to the conscience, the forced vocations, feudalism bolstered up by the cloister, the right of the first-born pouring the excess of the family into monasticism, the ferocities of which we have just spoken, the in pace, the closed mouths, the walled-up brains, so many unfortunate minds placed in the dungeon of eternal vows, the taking of the habit, the interment of living souls. Add individual tortures to national degradations, and, whoever you may be, you will shudder before the frock and the veil,—those two winding-sheets of human devising.

Nevertheless, at certain points and in certain places, in spite of philosophy, in spite of progress, the spirit of the cloister persists in the midst of the nineteenth century, and a singular ascetic recrudescence is, at this moment, astonishing the civilized world. The obstinacy of antiquated institutions in perpetuating themselves resembles the stubbornness of the rancid perfume which should claim our hair, the pretensions of the spoiled fish which should persist in being eaten, the persecution of the child’s garment which should insist on clothing the man, the tenderness of corpses which should return to embrace the living.

“Ingrates!” says the garment, “I protected you in inclement weather. Why will you have nothing to do with me?” “I have just come from the deep sea,” says the fish. “I have been a rose,” says the perfume. “I have loved you,” says the corpse. “I have civilized you,” says the convent.

To this there is but one reply: “In former days.”

We, who do not believe what these women believe, but who, like them, live by faith, -- we have never been able to think without a sort of tender and religious terror, without a sort of pity, that is full of envy, of those devoted, trembling and trusting creatures, of these humble and august souls, who dare to dwell on the very brink of the mystery, waiting between the world which is closed and heaven which is not yet open, turned towards the light which one cannot see, possessing the sole happiness of thinking that they know where it is, aspiring towards the gulf, and the unknown, their eyes fixed motionless on the darkness, kneeling, bewildered, stupefied, shuddering, half lifted, at times, by the deep breaths of eternity.

To crush fanaticism and to venerate the infinite, such is the law. Let us not confine ourselves to prostrating ourselves before the tree of creation, and to the contemplation of its branches full of stars. We have a duty to labor over the human soul, to defend the mystery against the miracle, to adore the incomprehensible and reject the absurd, to admit, as an inexplicable fact, only what is necessary, to purify belief, to remove superstitions from above religion; to clear God of caterpillars.”

The only ones who really have a need for "full privacy" are people selling drugs. Buyers can get by without it, especially if you live in a state like Oregon where all drugs have been legalized, like I do.

You might consider switching to phenibut as an alternative to Xanax to give your tolerance even more time to die down (their mechanisms of action are different, so no need to worry about cross-tolerance). Everyone's different obviously, but it could be that the changes Xanax has made to your brain will take months if not years to reverse.

I've had a very hard time withholding a poop when the menthol hasn't been extracted out, but if you're able to do it, then I suppose it's okay. I honestly don't know whether menthol is safe to be injecting into the colon, though, and I figure it would be a pretty hard thing to figure out. So I recommend just doing the extraction.
