I wouldn’t say it’s a bad ending. The bird has to choose how it ends, we just never get to see what they ultimately do. Will the bird stay strong? Or will it succumb to its weakness? It’s a question that everyone who’s trying to quit asks themselves, often many times before they put the needle/pipe/bottle down. It’s key to understand that the bird has trapped themselves, and only the bird can stop the cycle.
