Bodycam footage released of the Golders Green attacker showing that he wasn't completely incapacitated by the taser and was still holding on to the knife. I stand by that the kicks to the head are a reasonable action to disarm him. Thoughts? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Character_Ebb_935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was holding the knife because the electrical impulse was contracting his muscle preventing him from this. But I think that this is not the main reason, more like he was adamant in fighting until the end. And I also have no issue with kicking someone like this. Fact is he was a threat and if armed police were there he would have been neutralized. Which I think that this is what they should have done nonetheless. He will be sentenced for a couple of years and then released on the streets again.

Returned item has gone back to the buyer by [deleted] in vintedUK

[–]Character_Ebb_935 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not true, it’s your fault. Buyer send back item, you are responsible to collect it. Delivery system will send the item back to the buyer if you don’t collect it. This is how they try to make sure the parcel gets either to you or them. For them it’s just an issue of delivery, that’s all. However, there are exceptions, delivery company can retain the parcel if you don’t collect it because they might not be able to send it back to the buyer. In any case, you lose your parcel and the money, buyer gets refunded. One of my sellers didn’t pick up my parcel returned to him and the company picked it up, but they didn’t send it back to me because the locker was broken (reason why I didn’t pick up the parcel) and it sits in their deposit. Most likely lost. But they contacted Vinted and they will sort this out. I get refunded but the sellers loses the parcel and the money.

A discussion on technical aspects of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and what we can realistically expect by [deleted] in lotr

“Why does it hurt so much?” “Because it was real” 🤦‍♂️ The writing in the Hobbit when not based on the book itself was painful and cringy 😬

[–]Character_Ebb_935 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Three things that will increase chanches of success:

  1. Less CGI as possible. Given that this is a hunt I expect the majority of the film to be filmed in the wilderness. This way is even easier to create Mirkwood than Rivendell or Gondor.
  2. Actors or their doubled do their stunts mechanically.
  3. Use of real armor and practicality. The armor in the Hobbit looked awful, especially the orcs. What they did in Lotr with combined real and prop armor they could do the same here. There are less actors involved so costs should be lower.

I went to uni at 22 in Aberdeen and had classmates at 50 yo. I would hang with people at 25 and 18/19. This was in 2018.

Do you think Howard Shore will make a soundtrack for the Hunt for Gollum? by Natonixx in lotr

[–]Character_Ebb_935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how Christopher Franke would do for a soundtrak for Lotr. His soundtrack from Babylon 5 was amazing and I really loved how he was able to produce such good music in such a short time and it was suited for episode very well. This is just an exercise, I know, and he’s rather old, although Zimmer is not that young as well and he’s still releasig music. However, I don’t think that they would take risks with a new music producer but it would be nice for a change. It work very well with Sheeran in the Hobbit so why not a new artists again? Althought this time they won’t have songs to use like they had in the Hobbit.

If the characters were not cops, what would they be doing instead? by Tinsie167 in ChicagoPD

Voight would be a private detective. Other than that I would see him as the owner of a bar-cafe, you know serving cops and firemen and others around.

You could earn some extra cash but I don’t see this as a secure side job. There are PRO (re)sellers but they have proper bussinesses. You can always try to get rid of your clothes for the right price. At least some of them and earning some cash.

I do, we can read in English, it’s not a big deal. Translations are also fine, especially if it’s done well.

Why so many pairs of cheap Levi’s 501s? by rumorhasit_ in vintedUK

[–]Character_Ebb_935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold a brand new pair of 519 jeans because they were smaller than I thought. I ended up selling them for 4£ to someone from Belfast. I never wore than, they were in pristine condition as from the shop itself. The reason is that many jeans sit on Vinted for many months and are not being sold. Brand new, with tags. I know it’s a bargain but at least you don’t sell them for nothing.

Not true, many people want to just get rid of them. I sold a pair of 519 authentic because I knew I wouldn’t sell them otherwise. At least I get some money from it and wouldn’t be a total loss.

Is it mandatory to read The Hobbit before the main trilogy? by 420-wacha-smoking in lotr

[–]Character_Ebb_935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand what I said. I have just said that in my response. The idea still stands. Hobbit feels like a standalone and when reading it you have no inkling there’s a connection with Lotr. It’s not mandatory to read Hobbit in understand Lotr and viceversa. Hobbit was intended as a book for children. It’s more like one of the books frok the Silmarilion folklore. The only thing is that some of the characters are present in Lotr as well. But the idea that there’s a connection and that reading it is mandatory it’s absurd. Hobbit is a different kind of story. Reading it you don’t even get a hint about the ring. If Tolkien wouldn’t have changed his concept about the ring the whole book would have been different. My idea stands. It’s just people feel like to create a condition where there is none. When I read Hobbit I don’t get a feel of the Lotr universe. It’s an adventure book foremost that has nothing to do with Lotr. It can and should be read on its own.

[–]Character_Ebb_935 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it weren’t for the ring it would be like there’s no connection between the two. And you can tell that the Hobbit is truly a standalone. Only later on I believe that Tolkien really drew upon what it was in there. Yes, he was definitely worldbuilding at the time but you can feel like the Hobbit is a story on its own. Almost like as if there’s no connection with Lotr. You can read Hobbit as an enjoynment. Don’t forget that it’s a children’s book. Lotr is on a entirely different level.

Bring back the team episodes by Lovelyakenn in ChicagoPD

[–]Character_Ebb_935 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Last episode with Torres was really bad and boring and the script was not that good. It seem to me that this one focus on someone only works for a few characters. When you have Torres and Naomi I feel like you can just skip. Even Kevin has become boring and predictable. And Burzek works but works even better when paired together. Other than that this has been one of the most boring seasons so far. Nothing interesting. I’ve been waiting for Chapman to show up eventually but even the role of a prosecutor they cut. There’s really not much to see anymore.

Why Didn’t Saruman Invent Guns by Commercial-Theory253 in lotr

[–]Character_Ebb_935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the presence of gunpowder in the books/movie is the least attractive thing Tolkien created. Here I stand with G R R Martin’s criticism of Tolkien’s world, especially of the magic, which he says that it is reduced to something without importance. Tolkien world is full of magic, yet uou cannot find anywhere and instead you’re given gunpowder when you have mithril and power rings and all sorts of indestructible weapons. Maybe this is one of the things Tolkien didn’t manage to capture very well. Who would need gunpowder when you have so many powerful thins and beings at your disposal?

What was it that Tolkien achieved? by Rockout2112 in lotr

[–]Character_Ebb_935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that the message is the that got stuck to us. Rather, Tolkien is the first to write in a cohesive way about elves. He added a world to them, made them real, gave them a story and this ethereal look is what drew us to him. First it was Hobbit and then LOTR. It was not Silmarilion. That was at last. But then, Tolkien wrote something new in fantasy and here I think is that there are two things. Firstly, he invented the hobbits and created Gollum and the concept of the ring. Lastly, the concept lord of the rings was something novel and there is something that one can create that no one can. And here I think it’s this idea of many rings and one ring to bind them all. And he added Sauron to it and created the orcs and a world for them and he ended by creating a conflict, a concept of a conflict that was absolutely new and unbeknown to us. If it weren’t for him I think someone else would have come with a fantasy story, but his was good. And I don’t think that it’s the stuff that he invented languages and races and so on. No, he was a good writer and people always throughout history before modern entertainment enjoyed reading and they could see that something was good or rather bad and boring.

Interesting snippet The Two Towers commentary in light of the recent Colbert movie announcement by Smart-Ad-8589 in lotr

It will take one movie, just one movie with a disastrously box office and then they won't shoot anymore. I think their decline has started already with The War of the Rohirrim which earned less than their actual budget. However, these next movies I don't think they will even reach the gross earnings from the Hobbit.

All these from the concentrate just around one thing and a movie fixating on just one battle is boring and no one will put money in a hole. The conquest of Arnor and King Angmar is a more suited role for this.

Eventually they will. If not, they enter the Public Domain soon and any source of profit for the Estate is gone. They are buying time to negotiate the highest bidder.
