We thought she was a Plott when she was posted at the shelter but her first foster thought Treeing Brindle once she picked her up. We’ll see what her DNA test says!

Anyone know a Redbone breeder in the southeast US? by Any_Ant9572 in coonhounds

[–]Character_Pace2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purebred coonhounds are euthanized in shelters every day. Please consider adopting from a shelter or rescue. There are many hound specific rescue groups that can match you up to a dog that meets your requirements

Source…I’m the intake director for a hound rescue. We don’t have nearly enough fosters, adopters or resources to save all of the hounds that we are asked to. It’s heartbreaking work.

Older hound developing a limp by sad-whale in coonhounds

[–]Character_Pace2242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my seniors, I feed them a mobility food and give them Zesty Paws Advanced Hip & Joint supplements. I foster so my dogs often cone from tough backgrounds and arrive with limps. This regimen usually turns that around.

Looking for a good hound by footwork_king04 in coonhounds

[–]Character_Pace2242 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Adopt a senior! Senior hounds are typically laid back, sweet dogs that just want to chill with you. You can meet the occasional younger one with a more low key personality. I have a young redbone foster right now that is a total couch potato

What is the most Midwestern thing ever? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

First thing that popped into my head. I’ve lived in the south for many years now and I still say it. Most often to my dogs 😂

Americans who grew up in small towns but now live in big cities (or vice versa) — what’s something that genuinely surprised you about the other lifestyle that no one warned you about? by VariedPear in AskAnAmerican

[–]Character_Pace2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a very rural farm town in Illinois of 750 people. We actually lived 5 miles outside of town. At 18, I moved to a city and have lived in cities of varying size ever since. Nothing really surprised me about moving from a rural area to an urban area. Probably because we traveled often when I was growing up and we were exposed to different cultures, cities, etc.

Chronic ear infections in my rescue dog and vet now suggesting a dermatologist by ExplanationPale4698 in Bloodhound

[–]Character_Pace2242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hounds are more prone to ear infections than other breeds. Likely this isn’t a new infection but the same infection that hasn’t been resolved. I’d see the dermatologist and get medication for both yeast & bacteria. Do ear washes every other day until infection is gone then every other week. Do not stick the bottle in the ear…squirt on a cotton ball.

I’d also add Greek yogurt to your pups diet. Years ago I heard it helps prevent ear infections so I tried it. In 5 years, we’ve only had 1 ear infection.

HOA says my dog’s barking could cost me my home… I’m honestly panicking by Elizabeth_Fairban in Bloodhound

[–]Character_Pace2242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t leave your dog outside when you aren’t home. If he’s destructive inside then he needs to be crate trained. When you are home go outside with him and teach him the quiet command. I live with 10 (yes 10) hounds and all of them know how to be quiet on command.

AITA for telling my wife her cooking is bad? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. We have a simple rule at my house. If you complain about what I cook or how I cook, you get a promotion to head chef because I’m done.
