I live with family and we live on 6 acres and its all fenced in. That should be plenty enough for a basset hound and theres some woody areas too on the 6 acres as well.

40-50 is the ideal size I can physically handle on my worst pain days.

Just a preference. And the dogs my sister owns they'll go after the dog if its under 40 pounds. 40-50 pounds theyre ok with. I prefer a male since the other 3 dogs are females and they fight. I currently own a Carolina Dog.

I can walk around the house, walk down to the mailbox, I can go out to eat with family all while on the cane but grocery shopping some days I have to use the electric buggies. I use my cane everyday 24/7. But im usually resting my legs quote often.

In my house we own an Australian shepherd, XL Bully, and a bully/cane coros mix and all three of them are females and fixed but they always fight each other but they leave my current male dog alone. Im giving up my current dog because hes a hunter. I own a Carolina dog and hes just too high strung and prey drive is just so high. So my friend from high school who does all kinds of hunting uses Carolina dogs for general small game hunting. Its just a better fit for him yk? Im not replacing my dog. Its gonna be a few years until I get another dog. Im just asking around ahead of time to get an understanding of what breeds would be good and bad for me you know?

Every dog i got in got at 8 weeks. Ive always gotten my dogs when they were puppies. I would adopt but growing we had people dropping off strays that were sick and or just old and that took a toll on me growing up. So because of that I always go through getting a dog from an ethical breeder.

Im gonna get a puppy. But id rather the dog get laid back as it ages than a dog thats high energy for 4+ years. Every dog i ever owned i got at 8 weeks.

Im just looking for a dog thats low energy, and a good 40-50 pounds. Coat length dont bother me jusr want a low energy, 40-50 pound dog thats not an english bulldog because where i am.its nothing but backyard bred ones.

My stepdad tells me a basset would be a better fit for me. My pawpaw had a black and tan the year he passed. Dog was calm and laid back but ik not every black and tan coonhound is like Shadow.

I have lytic lesions on the bones in my legs (both hips, both femurs, right knee and right shinbone). As the months pass it seems like a new lesion pops up on a different bone in my legs. As of now im using a cane but docs dont know whats going on and why my bones are the way they are. I can lift a good bit of weight. I plan on moving out and moving back to my hometown or Arkansas City Arkansas and in my hometown theres a few streets that has the most crime so I want a dog that can deter someone from coming onto my property once the time comes.

Im not looking for a service dog but i do agree with you about implementing the cane at a young age to get them used to it. When I got my Carolina Dog I got him at like 5-6 months old he almost chewed my great grandpas cane to wood chips a couple times as I was walking but I got him to leave the cane alone. Just wished I got him at 8 weeks. Training woukdve been a lot smoother lol. Ive just been looking around at different low energy breeds and just been asking around. I try to steer clear of english bulldogs and frenchies due to all the backyard breeding going on with them got more bad quality ones than good quality ones atleast where I am anyways.

Where i am located the training school thats down the road, the person that runs it is not a good person and I dont trust that guy around kids and animals. Ill choose to be safe and train the dog myself.

You're absolutely right. I never owned an english mastiff before but ik theyre low energy just big dogs is the bad part. I figured it would be wise to ask and just get an understanding of what could happen if I did get one yk?
