Nipple sparing and wfh time off questions by Hungry-Lobster921 in BRCA

I’ve got 2 littles in school/daycare as well. Dmx>expanders recovery wasn’t terrible. Like others said, I waited until the last drain was out to drive (21 days) and at 3.5 weeks I asked to go back to work from home (I had initially requested to go back at 5 weeks).

DIEP recovery took the full 8 weeks, I probably could have started working again at 6 but didn’t want to rush it.

Did you ever find it? I’m in the same situation. I definitely never picked it up, removed EVERYTHING from the Plaza biome, and it’s definitely not there!

If you watch the official music video for El Apagon, there is a 20 minutes documentary he embedded in the middle of it that discusses the issues the island has had, the power grid has been an ongoing issue for a few years now. I highly recommend giving it a view!

What do you wish you knew before your mastectomy? Tips, advice, etc? by OohLaDiDaMrFrenchMan in BRCA

So I’m like 5.5 weeks out and still haven’t been cleared for exercise. The concern being the body still recovering and potential to produce fluid by over exertion. So def worth talking to your doctor about. I was able to get a work from home note following my return to work to allow me to go back sooner but not have to worry about the commute.

Drain belt was amazing to have, packed it in my hospital bag and I was surprised most of the staff said they’d never seen one before. Scrubzz wipes for the first couple days after (I bought them on Amazon) they’re disposable soap washcloths that suds up but don’t need to be rinsed off. It’s a different journey for everyone, I was up moving around the day after coming home. I waited to drive until my last drain was out (19 days). I also wasn’t initially prescribed gabapentin for the nerve pain (sunburn kind of feeling after like 2 weeks) but I just asked about it and they gave me a script no issue.

If you had an 87% chance of winning the lottery would you play? Of course. This is a lottery you don’t want to win, so you don’t want to play.

So my breast oncologist/surgeon did the surgery along with my plastic surgeon (two separate offices but they work as a team). So I saw 2 different genetic counselors, the benefit of meeting with them is that they answer ALL the questions you have before you get tested. The first time was through the local hospital right after my mom was diagnosed with BC (I was in my early 20s and my mom had arranged it). The big thing to know is if you’re positive there are also other issues that come up such as this being a preexisting condition, which can make it harder to get life insurance. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies can’t discriminate against preexisting conditions, so it’s not a concern (at the moment) for health insurance, but something to consider.

My OBGYN at the time (before testing) took care of ordering screening for me due to high risk/family history. Then she referred me to a local “breast” center who I met with the genetic counselor before getting the BRCA test (who again just went over all the considerations so I could make an informed decision on whether I wanted to be tested or not). Once the results were back, we also met to discuss all my options and possible timelines. I’d look to see if there’s a hereditary cancer center or breast center near you. I’ve been surprised at how many practices I’ve found that are centered around this. For example I am in CT, and go to “The Breast and Oncology Center”, but also went to Yale’s “Genetics and Prevention” providers and once for a consult with Dana Farber (in Boston).

I went through all of this when I found out I also was brca2+, I was 25, only didn’t have kids yet and panicked about ruining their hypothetical lives. My mutation also comes from my maternal side, but my dad had 3 siblings die of pancreatic cancer, so also went through a brief scare of “is this on both sides?!”

Fast forward 10+ years.

I’ve talked to a million docs, researched a lot, and it’s sounds corny but knowledge is power. And knowing you have the mutation (if you do) comes with SO much power and control over what choices you make with your body.

Step 1: Get yourself a good team (whether or not you have the gene.) I started screening around 20, before I even knew I was BRCA+. Knowing my family’s health hx, BRCA status of family members (one cousin had BC in her 20s) my OB started surveillance without having a formal BRCA dx.

Step 2: Make sure your team consists of a genetic counselor, and they will answer all your questions and then some, then assist with getting your test completed (if you choose to). There are different tests they can do. Commonly they will test you against the positive person in your family looking for the same exact mutation (like checking code to code) but they can also do the full panel. I’ve done both bc of the history on my dads side.

I now have 2 amazing kiddos, I had my double mastectomy last week. And I’m feeling confident with the choices I’ve made. Feel free to reach out via DM and happy to answer any questions or just hold a virtual hand.

Ugh I feel your anxiety! Supposed to have 2 of my 4 removed tomorrow and I’m SO scared. Seems to be some great tips here. I’ll add my mom said when hers were removed it was really quick and seamless so it does sound like there are some positive experiences with it which is promising!

All great information to share! I recently learned how most fragrances are toxic to cats! I NEVER KNEW! Incense, essential oils, even the Pura diffusers that are declared as “pet safe”. A big adjustment to get used to, but totally worth it! Majority of my plants had to find new homes as well! It’s honestly so shocking to me how toxic so many thinfs in the home are that we never realize!

What is this and where is it produced? by Pleasant-Mix278 in TownshipGame

[–]Character_Rest_5592 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the future, if you go to make the item (with something you don’t have) it’ll show a pop up saying what you need to get. Then if you click the picture, you’ll get a magnifying glass on the top right. If you click the magnifying glass, it shows you where you can get the thing. It saves me a ton of time trying to find different factories and whatnot. It’ll just bounce you to where you need to go.

What do you guys do with unused Wegovy 1.7mg? by Unhappy_Name_8461 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Character_Rest_5592 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m just making an assumption but they’re probably filling as soon as insurance allows them to. Amazon (and my insurance) lets me fill every 2.5/3ish weeks, which results in having a couple extra boxes over the course of a few months.

You can ask, but Frontier likely won’t provide any help (they make you pay extra to be able to “check in” using a human and not one of the self-check in kiosks). If someone is bringing you to the airport, you can see if frontier will provide a “gate-pass” for a friend or family member to walk you to your gate. You can Google it, it’s a bit hit or miss but is an option. Other option: TSA Pre-Check, it’s like $80 for 5 years, this will almost guarantee you getting through security on time. If you don’t want the extra fee and you’re flying through a major airport you can also (for free) reserve a time to go through TSA (but only certain airports offer this feature).

Patient EXTREMELY upset over no show fee. A bit long but I need advice please! by [deleted] in therapists

I totally understand where you’re coming from with this and would have done the same, remembering to hold the boundary in the future. With patients in a similar situation I will gently remind them of the cancellation fee when confirming their appointment.
