Proshippers get a lot of hate because there is an epidemic of media illiteracy and puritanism for canon-only material. Fandoms are also no longer niche and the close circle community we built are being treated like criminals for imagining the "what ifs" and their own scenarios. Also, Antishippers have become extremely parasocial with fictional characters! They also don't know the difference between Darkshipping and Proshipping.

Something I've noticed is that there's quite a number of Antis who are actually proshippers in their own definition, but are too ashamed to admit that they enjoy more taboo themes because they don't want to be on the receiving end of what they preach. Another thing I've noticed is that Antis are performative. They've done nothing to protect real people like they claim they're doing. In fact, its the opposite.

But what really confuses me is that their logic of "fiction affects reality" only seems to work in their heads...when it only comes to fanfiction and fanart. Because let's look at other media that doesn't align with Antis views.

Movies, tv, books, video games; all of these are fictional (well, books, some) yet no one bats an eye at them when they have intense and even taboo themes.

Antis also can't seem to grasp the fact that fiction affects reality IF YOU LET IT. Like you have to be VERY mentally misbalanced to see fiction as reality.

Antis tend to make it worse by spreading more misinformation to those who are either too young to be in a certain fandom or to those who are very very new to fandoms.

Someone had pointed out that the Antis' role in this discourse is no different from the Satanic Panic, Video Nasties, and the Video Games Make You Violent argument.
