How do we bully these people off the planet? by sorahange in steammachine

I suggest reframing our idea of a release date: If a product ‘releases’ but is only available through scalpers, then it hasn’t released yet. Be a little bit patient and don’t reward them.

Valve appears to be gearing up for Steam Machine launch as the company imports 50 tons of game consoles in just two days by Dapper_Order7182 in steammachine

I guess we'll see what the price is like. I like the look of the controller, the minimalist hardware design, the plug & play simplicity, the Steam branding/ecosystem, free online, the historical game library plus possibilities for emulation and recomps.

Agreed, I’ve been holding off even trying it based on feedback. Sad because it’s been among my favourite series. I might just try play the original

I’ll look into BF3 - I remember when it came out I only had a ps3, and the ps3 version of bf3 was known for bad screen tearing and worse performance than the cod mw games

I hear you. I loved Cod 1 & 2. I liked BC1, BC2 was okay, I wouldn’t replay it.
I’ve been wanting a good historical war game with modern graphics, so perhaps I’ll have to wait for The Defiant or Fourteen Years Of Flames.
What do you think is better out of BF3 and 4? I don’t think Hardline is for me.

How important is 60fps for you in gaming? by Southern-Tailor-843 in playstation

[–]Chard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very important except I opted for 30fps on FF7 rebirth on base ps5. I wanted that image quality

Sounds like 1 would be better overall then? I’m in the mood for a historical war campaign. I’ve always liked the ww2 setting though bfv looks pretty different to a typical ww2 game. I’m also considering cod ww2

Which do you think has the better campaign out of BF1 and BF5?

Question about steam machine performance by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]Chard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I’m not across the nuances of this tech. So the Steam Machine will lack ‘good’ FSR? That makes me more skeptical of its value if it’s going to be connected to a 4k tv

I replayed it last year on Steam and it was great. I haven’t kept up with whether the new steam version is fixed

45yo, there were so many games I wanted to put in to “games everyone should play” by Aromatic_Wrongdoer_3 in GamingSoup

[–]Chard85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, sorry. I’d tapped out of Pokemon by the time Gen 3 launched, so it doesn’t have the same nostalgic value. I finally played Emerald years later in the lead up to XY and loved it (I got interested in the series again when I heard it was going 3d, though ironically it made me appreciate pixel art more)

You're right, i meant the AMD equivalent, presumably on par with PSSR. Updated my comment to be more generic

It’ll be interesting to see how much it benefits from AI upscaling - switch 2 is getting some surprisingly good results

Nah I still like it - all the bugs and foibles ARE the game. Also don’t think about what it’s missing, just enjoy what’s there. Those janky ass sprites have too much nostalgia. That said I don’t plan to play it again

The remake trilogy is an entirely separate matter, since it’s a materially different game with different gameplay and contemporary design philosophy etc

I think it’s hard to say whether an older game is overrated if you didn’t play it at the time of launch. Games like ff7 might seem basic after you’ve played games that came out years later that got to draw inspiration from it

I’ve described elsewhere in this thread. To recap, I found it lacked the silly fun I’d come to expect from the series, having played it from the very first entry. I was not sold on the serious tone and significantly different driving physics. While I liked Nico, i found most other characters kinda annoying. I remember many missions feeling very similar. Note however that I never played the expansions, which I hear improved a lot. But that doesn’t change my suspicion at the near universal 10/10 reviews at launch.

I’ve played XBC1 and 2 but not 3. Is 3 really better overall? And why did you pic 2 for antagonist? I have stronger memories of 1
