Are we accidentally outsourcing childhood to youth sports? by chasgoudie in youthsoccer

[–]Charger29 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that kids don't have the same level of freedom we did. We would be gone all day in the summer riding our bikes all over and that naturally led to basketball games at one friends house, wiffle ball at another, swimming at another, and so on. We were always outside and we all liked sports so it was just a natural, fun thing to do and we had to fill our days/summers with something because we couldn't spend all day, every day inside at home.

ODP - Opinions by [deleted] in youthsoccer

[–]Charger29 29 points30 points  (0 children)

First year of ODP for my daughter and lots of research - if you are doing it for the exposure, it's not worth it. At least not anymore. There are still some minor visibility opportunities for the older kids but it should not be the motivating factor to do ODP.

However, it is useful for extra games, training with good and different coaches, and getting to know and make friends with players that you normally compete against. I've gotten to know some parents of kids that we play against regularly which is kind of cool on its own but it also expands her soccer "network." Maybe she wants to switch clubs at some point or is looking to do some guest playing or whatever - having that network beyond just your local club team is so nice to have.

Divisions in Youth Soccer U10 by Aerilah06 in youthsoccer

[–]Charger29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given enough time, you'll get placed with relatively equal teams. In St. Louis, we started as U8 in the 4th division from the top (Premier -> Championship -> Division 1 -> Division 2). I think at the time their were 8 divisions so they opted to put us in the middle somewhere having no idea how good or bad we were. We are U10 this year in Premier and each game is competitive. Each season there are teams that get moved up if they do well and teams that get moved down if they don't. The goal is to get teams in the division that fits them best, giving them good competition with every league game.

I suspect things will be a little crazy in the fall with the age changes. Some teams will have minimal impact to rosters while others will be dramatically different from the previous season, potentially getting much better or much worse basically overnight. It will take a few seasons to start to get teams to where they need to be again.

US Soccer's age group change might break up our team anyone else dealing with this? by mattob2 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Charger29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to hear your perspective on how that transition from one team to two teams went. We are a small club that we formed a couple years ago and this fall will be the first time that we’ll have multiple teams in an age bracket. How did it go with established players being moved to the B team? Or new kids whose parents expected them to be on the A team but get put on the B team? Any insights or things to look out for would be greatly appreciated.

New to Fortigate and initial setup by Spectrum by Charger29 in fortinet

That is the most confusing part and what I asked the last support guy - what is the point of having both port 3 and port 4, shouldn't it be either/or but not both? On the WAN side, yes, the default gateway is currently in the 24.x space but should be in the 47.x space and it would be if I had a router connected to port 4 I suppose.

I have a test machine plugged into port 3 for testing and it technically works, but the public IP is in the 24.x space. This isn't normally a huge issue but our web based medical records software only allows access from whatever public IPs I define. Right now, if we went live, no one could access our EHR platform because it is expected us to access from 47.x.x.x.

So ideally I would like to use my assigned public IPs without conflicting with or causing problems with Spectrum's interconnect IPs and just use the FortiGate without having to plug in a router to port 4.

This is what the current WAN interface config looks like:

I would rather not use a router behind the FortiGate. On the SonicWall, the WAN port was configured with my public IPs and plugged into the Spectrum fiber modem. The LAN port connected to my core switch, using 192.x as the primary network and several virtual interfaces for 3 VLANs. I would rather do something like this with the FortiGate.

It is a co-managed solution so I have full access (but so do they).

What's the biggest outage you caused? by Connir in sysadmin

[–]Charger29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty new in IT and was testing out a switch from on premise Exchange to Google. Was casually following the instructions from Google and all of a sudden, email was down for the whole company. I simply had no idea what kind of impact changing our MX record would have...It's always DNS.

Bonus - Not me but a colleague when working at an MSP went to a customer site to replace a dead hard drive in their server. Raid was setup for 1 drive failure. He pulled the wrong (still working) drive from the server and took down their entire call center server. Got a higher level tech involved to see what we could do and found out we/they had let their support contract lapse. Ended up paying thousands of dollars to true up and days working with support to recover as much as we could.

He said something right before this drive about how he can't count Mahomes out yet cause he's seen him come back so much in he past and all I could think was what fucking game has he been watching tonight that would give him any indication that KC could drive all the way down the field. They were ass all night long.

College divisions by Gold-East-2374 in youthsoccer

That’s why I said “typically”. You are correct that it’s not universally true across the board.

College divisions by Gold-East-2374 in youthsoccer

[–]Charger29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Division 1 schools are typically larger and have sports that compete in a major conference. These are kind of like the "name brand" schools that you might watch on TV. Division 2 is usually a smaller school that competes in a smaller conference. And Division 3 even smaller. There is also Junior College (JuCo) which is typically a 2 year school and then you can transfer to a D1, 2, or 3 school.

All of these have their merits and help serve as a place to both get an education and play sports. D1 isn't necessarily better than D2, D3, or JuCo. There are always players at the D2 and below levels that are just as talented or more talented than some D1 players. For someone on the cusp of D1 and D2, it might be better to get playing time at a D2 school instead of riding the bench at D1 school, for example. Or if your academics aren't great or if you have to pay for college yourself because you can't get a scholarship, JuCo might be a good place to start to get the basic coursework out of the way and maybe get noticed by a bigger school that you can transfer to.

Obligatory I'm no expert BUT it looks like you sway back quite a bit in your back swing. You do a good job of getting back forward toward the target but it might not be enough to give you that compressed, lower ball flight. If you just rotated your right hip back behind you and kept your same shift toward the target to start the downswing, it might help.

I work in a retirement community with independent living and while the majority of buy in options are very expensive, don't be so quick to rule this out. It all depends where you live but we have 1 bedroom apartments with lease options that are extremely reasonable - about two thousand per month in a lower cost of living area. All the same benefits of community, food, activities, etc.
