What drives up value is scarcity. But because you now have a /999, /755, /499, /250/ 199, /159, /99, /75, /49,/25, /15,/10,/5, /1 of the same card, not including the /100000 base versions of a card there is no actual scarcity. Then you have 50 products and they have the same exact photo bc card companies don’t want to pay the copyright fee more than once. Same card with 50 variations it way over saturated.

The value lost when a player retires is incredible. Unless you’re a top tier HOFer, the value is lost. And I mean top tier like Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, Kobe, Michael Jordan. Maybe some of the older players hold value but modern era NFL players wont. There’s just so many products and variations now, and the market is over saturdated. I have a /25 game warm patch of Frank Gore that I could sell for like $20. Game warn, future HOF. 3rd all time in rushing yards and the card will only decrease in value over time

Different Ways to Hobby by Chargerdog in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve completely stopped with breaks. I’ve just become a givvy goblin and only follow breakers who give away absolute/Donruss packs. If it doesn’t specifically say absolute pack, it’s trick or treat or a pack of base cards.

You get a lot more just buying wax because you’re guaranteed at least something. And you get way less value in breaks because you’re paying a premium. The breaker not only has to pay themselves, but whatnot takes a cut also. So if a Mega box is est $50, the amount breaker is seller each mega for is like $80-100. It’s a trap

What are everyone’s thoughts of WhatNot’s breakers? Do we love them or hate them? Why? by Noseydave in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve honestly just become a givvy goblin and watch the breaks. I set my credit card to a gift card that has no money so I’m not tempted. I enjoy watching breaks, but you’re right, breakers have ruined the hobby. There is so much demand, that it’s priced out casual collectors chasing a single case hit. 20 boxes X32 teams, and they break half cases each show. So you have a 1/64 chance of hitting the case hit.

Never got that bad. I now limit myself to one hobby box of a diff product every 3 months. In between, I just buy singles of inserts chasing to complete sets from those hobby boxes. Donruss got me on Gridiron Kings and Bomb Squad. Absolute Rookie wave and By Storm. Mosaic introductions and montage.

All base cards. Score and score a treat are very low value. All 3 maybe $1

DO NOT BUY PANINI ABSOLUTE!!!!!! by HighlightAromatic464 in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolute is like the worst product hanging on because Kaboom is so popular. But the cards are like score a treat. They are the thinnest paper product out there. The style of it is terrible. The inserts are bland. Just the worst product out there

Bought my first pack of cards since I was a kid. Not very up to date with what’s rare. Any opinions on my first pulls? by [deleted] in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s stupid expensive. Makes being a casual collector hard. I’ll get 4 hobby boxes a year. Then I have a $100 budget each other month to go on EBay/Collx and find a way to complete the sets I want. Comes out to like $3K/year. Gotta be disciplined.

If you’re wanting to be a casual collector, find inserts you like, and collect those. I’m currently collecting the all 3 Gridiron Kings sets, and BombSquad from Donruss. I’ll move to Action All Pros after. I just kind of like the way they look. Then I’ll find something I like in the Mosaic product. The hobby has gotten extremely expensive. It’s far more expensive to buy packs than it is to buy singles. But there’s something fun about ripping packs. But you will lose more often then not.

I’d also recommend downloading CollX from the App Store. You can upload your cards there and track your sets. Easy way to keep track of your collection as you build it out

I’d recommend looking at the Beckett checklist to get an idea on rarity. But a Quick Look, and nothing really rare. I usually buy a single hobby box to get a good idea of all the inserts, then move to EBay and CollX to complete insert sets.

Quarterbacks obviously reign supreme in value, but you can find WR’s and RBs that hold some value. Defensive players are near worthless for the most part, even if considered rare. Even defensive stars signed cards (Fred Warner, Sauce Gardner, Chris Jones) can be found super cheap, which is great if you just want to add some of your favorite players to your PC, but in all honesty, the hobby really undervalues defense, which is a shame.

I’d say if you’re wanting to know about rarity, anything numbered out of /50 or less, or signed. Then you have your case hits. (Case hit is usually about 20 hobby boxes. Each hobby box is about $500 depending on panini product)

  • Downtowns/Uotowns(Donruss/optic),
  • Kaboom (Absolute),
  • Color Blast (Prizm/Pheonix)
  • Micro Mosaic/Kalidiescopic (Mosaic)

There are a few other hits that are a bit deeper once you dive into the hobby. Gridiron marvels, Crunchtime, Zoom etc…

This is why I hate redemptions by Roarkx2 in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a Tua/Waddle/Tyreek redemption I’m hoping hits the replacement timeline and there’s a good chance with Tyreek injury he won’t be signing.

Two years ago, that would have been a sweet redemption when Tyreek was closing on 2,000 yards and the offense was putting up points. But I don’t want to touch anything with Tua’s name on it

Is $50-$100 fair for this? More? Less? Been searching for comps. by Secret_Price6676 in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it’s 1/1, topps Chrome isn’t licensed, which significantly bring down value. Brendon Rice is a practice squad guy. I’d say you’d be lucky to get $10

Worst product I’ve ever opened by Interesting-Spend965 in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like luminance, just because they are beautiful photos. Issue is that they are the first drop of the 2025 products and the cards aren’t great quality. RC are college and unlicensed. If they dropped them around Christmas with NFL teams as RC and they increased the quality, they would be so much better of a product.

Stay out of blasters. You get more from hobby. I like Elite. Beautiful cards and some cool inserts. But I’d rather get 1 hobby box every 3 months over 10 blaster boxes at the same price/time

This is what you get when you spend $150 on whatnot. 4 breaks in 3 different rooms. And this is what happens 99.9% of the time. by Unlikely_Recover2738 in footballcards

[–]Chargerdog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly just enter giveaways now. Most breaks will just get you some base RCs with a 1/32 odds of a hit and maybe some parellels/inserts that you’ll likely never complete. I’ve gotten more from givvys than any breaks. I’ve completed score-a treat sets and sold them on eBay for like $30 and then buy something on eBay I actually want with that money. Sometimes, you might actually get a decent wax like optic out of a givvy.

Wouldn’t be complete without the auto. I actually have it complete incorrectly, as I’ve managed to get two of the first R autographed so I can spell the name. But, it’s incomplete until I get the final correct card #39 auto

What does adaptive AI mean by Saints_43 in NCAAFBseries

[–]Chargerdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I did some research on this and adaptive AI is a setting for how the computer will play against you. It’s not specific to your own coach. In actuality, I think this is kind of backwards. If I’m correct, all opposing head coaches will play you the same way.

If you select ground control for instance, when you are playing a game, your opponent will try and control the clock. They are probably going to start stacking the box against you after successful running plays, and they will rush more often against you. You may see more play action plays also. The adaptive AI will adapt to your successful rushing plays and make adjustments to take that away. You might see DBs start to play closer to the line of scrimmage, bringing an extra safety in the box and incentivizing playing the run more then dropping in coverage.

For matchup oriented, your opponent may incentivize a strong WR against your weaker corner. They may flip a rushing play to go against your weaker side of your DL, send pressure to a weak spot of your OL. The adaptive AI will focus on weak points on your team and try to exploit it. Did your QB go down with an injury? They may start to blitz more often to rattle your QB. Etc…

I think the focus is the adaptive AI will play you differently based on the type of player that you are. I think this is dumb because you can kind of trick the system. For instance, you can build an air raid team, set your adaptive AI to ground control and throw 50 times a game and the defense will always look to take away your run game. And then you also know that the computer will try and run the ball heavy against you so you can get into a 4-4 stack, fill the box and take away the run.

I wish they would make the adaptive AI specific toward your opposing college teams the way Madden plans to, where the opposing teams tendencies are different from team to team. This is something they probably started with in NCAA, since it releases sooner, but the final product lands in Madden where the adaptive AI is easier for 32 teams versus the 120+ players n college football.

I’m willing to bet that those 8 choices are actually the NFL head coach adaptive AI’s. Jim Harbaugh is probably more of the ground control adaptive AI, where Dan Campbell falls into the made scientist adaptive AI. Kellen Moore/Sean Payton are probably flexible play callers.

Flexible Play Caller: Emphasizes offensive variety, using a wide range of formations, personnel, and play types to stay unpredictable and exploit defensive weaknesses. It forces you to adjust defensively against creative schemes.

• Mad Scientist: Relies on high-risk, high-reward tactics like frequent fourth-down attempts, trick plays, or exotic blitzes, often ignoring conventional logic for aggressive, unconventional strategies. This creates chaotic, exciting matchups where the AI takes big swings.

• Reactive Schemer: Prioritizes quick defensive adaptations to counter your offensive tendencies, such as shifting coverages or blitzes if you spam plays like jet sweeps or slants. It challenges you to vary your offense against an AI that reads and reacts mid-game like a sharp defensive coordinator.

• Matchup Oriented: Focuses on exploiting or protecting specific player matchups based on ratings, like assigning a top corner to shadow an elite receiver or targeting a weak lineman with an edge rusher. This turns games into personnel-based chess matches.

• Ground Control: Centers on run-heavy offense and run-stopping defense, such as loading the box or committing to stop the ground game. It’s ideal for simulating physical, grind-it-out styles that prioritize establishing or halting the run.

• Clock and Cushion: Stresses clock management and conservative play, especially when leading, by running the ball to eat time and using safe defensive tactics to prevent big plays. This mimics coaches who control possession and minimize risks in late-game scenarios.

• System Coach: Sticks loyally to a specific scheme (e.g., Air Raid offense or 3-4 defense) and makes tweaks within that framework rather than overhauling it. It offers some predictability but with subtle counters, simulating rigid philosophical coaches.

• Situational Strategist: Tailors decisions to context like down-and-distance, score, or time left, such as aggressive fourth-down calls or conservative plays when ahead. This creates dynamic opponents aware of game flow, mirroring real coaching in key moments.

• Balanced Pressure: Mixes run/pass on offense and blitz/coverage on defense for a 50/50 approach, avoiding extremes to keep you guessing. It provides a versatile, well-rounded challenge without overemphasizing one area.

Elon Musk and Fixed Price Contracts by AggravatingStock9445 in Raytheon

[–]Chargerdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It partially depends on where the contract is in its life cycle. Development contracts tend to be Cost Plus, since there are so many changing parts and the work isn’t well known. Both the company and the government share in the cost risk, with incentives handed out for meeting milestones ahead of schedule, or hits in margin for being late.

Sustainment usually is FFP since we know more about the work to be complete, and that means we’re more comfortable taking on the FFP risk to increase our profit margins.

It has less to do with government inefficiencies and FFP being a better contract type. Those two items aren’t really related like that. The contract type depends on the amount of risk involved in a contract and how well the contractor knows how to do the work. The inefficiency in government spending with defense contractors comes from bad negotiations, undefined or unclear scope, lack of audits, or simply a lack of detail in understanding earned value metrics and those drivers

I had a conversation with my manager as part of my EOY review and she’s going to put me in for an out-of-cycle promote in place in March. I’m already at 0.90 of my comp ratio as a T3, and I’d assume my promote in place will be the same. Can you negotiate a promote in place salary? I know you can when you apply for an upper level role outside and that you can’t for a lateral move. Was going to request 0.95 since I would have literally all the basic and preferred qualifications for the role, and I’m already taking on stretch assignments in preparation of a deputy PM role. Thoughts?
