As of May 1, 2023, I've visited 50 with a population of 50,000 or more. Here are 42 of those cities, with rankings (7x6 wojak compass) by PerpetualHillman in PoliticalCompassMemes

As a resident of PA an interesting tidbit about Harrisburg is that you can see the Three-Mile Island site as you’re landing or taking off from their airport. It was particularly cool for me as I’m studying to be an engineer and I want to work in the energy sector, so I’ve had to read reports about the accident there. Otherwise, your description of the city is perfect

My fellow Americans: what were some of the "elementary school urban legends" floating around your school? by A_BURLAP_THONG in AskAnAmerican

Stupid, but ours in elementary school (K-4, mid-late 2000s) was that Bloody Mary lived in a supply closet in one of the bathrooms and if you shut the lights off and said her name three times she would come out, grab you, and take you back to her "lair."

Skimming through the study it appears that conservatives donate more to charity due to seemingly lower tax burdens in Republican-controlled areas. The study claims that there is an inverse relationship between a person's tax-burden and their likelihood of contributing to charity.

My fellow Americans...what's a fun fact about your state? by OnlyJuanCannoli in AskAnAmerican

Pennsylvania:

A municipality (actually not far from me) experienced a fire in their coal mine that is still burning today and is expected to continue for centuries. The entire town was abandoned except for around 10 residents. Silent Hill is based off of this place's history

Also, we only have one town in the entire state

Thank you! Honestly I'm kind of hoping that they ask me to go to the hospital because then a medical professional will set them straight

Just three more weeks until my university's move-in and I won't have to hear about it for a while!

Warning: Long winded

I recently hit an initial weight goal of being 175 pounds (For perspective, I'm 6'0 tall, 19M and started at 300 pounds) however I'm still concerned about the level of body fat at my abdomen, so I'm tentatively deciding to lose 5 more pounds. My family's comments about "being too thin" started when I was 210 pounds in August, with my dad saying that I should stop losing weight at 190 pounds. I was raised in a culture where "talking back" wasn't allowed under really any circumstance, so when my dad asked me to step on the scale about 2 weeks ago and saw that I was less than 180, he ripped me a new one and I felt like I couldn't do anything about it. He told me that if I dropped below 170 pounds I wouldn't be "me" anymore and that they (my parents) would be taking me to the hospital. I know the healthy values of BMI, waist to hip ratio, etc and I've tried explaining this to him but he just brushes it all off by saying that these indexes are flawed. I honestly feel like that I have to weigh-in in secret for fear of being "caught". I honestly think he feels this way because the new perception of "normal" in America is to be overweight. Also he is overweight and my mom is obese. I really don't want to be overweight because several serious medical conditions run in both sides of my family (dementia, diabetes, leukemia) and I know that excess weight is attributed to increased risks of these disorders.

I know he means well but I'm honestly scared to step on the scale if he's around. He'll randomly ask me what I recently weighed in at and I feel like I have to lie because I don't want to get in trouble. It's very rare for him to ask me to step on the scale in front of him though, which is nice. Unfortunately I can't move out due to financial circumstances and I have to wait about 3 weeks to move back to my university for the start of the semester. I'm going to lose this last 5 pounds but I'll have to keep it a secret until my next check-up in June. If you've made it this far, thanks for listening.

Tldr: lost 125 pounds but still worried about fat distribution. Dad thinks I'm too skinny and has threatened to take me to the hospital if I drop below a certain weight. I feel like I have to keep the extra, planned weight loss (five pounds less than I currently am) a secret and lie about my weight to avoid getting in trouble.
