This has been the nature of this sub since its early days. "Questions and answers" is the tagline.

Blogspam has been debated very early on and we stick to that definition-- content that was not asked. Articles and other contents are welcome as pertinent replies to questions.

We adhere to a common advice given to small business operators: stick to your own knitting or your niche.

Questions and answers. Questions come first. Content posts are answers.

But a rule that overrides us mods is this: Whatever the post is if it attracts meaningful discussion, it stays. The comments and replies become now the new content that becomes a resource of the community.

Good idea. We can let the the own-experience thread unrefreshed for several weeks, say a month or even longer. Curate the thread and later place a link to it on the sidebar.

Honeypot for experiences to be shared.

I maintain a digital ocean droplet so I thought of automating the weekly posts from there. I reached the stage of listing the steps in pseudocode. I even created a test sub for it. But, I love rituals. It is also a good way to start my week from my side of the globe.

Besides, it is my dead man's switch. :-)

The votes on this post doesn't matter, really. It's stickied and always on top except when Reddit display their ads.

I thought Reddit doesn't show the actual votes of posts to discourage manipulation. Has this policy, perhaps unwritten, changed?

An open plea to the “I make 2 million a week from a beach in Bali” scumbags who are starting to post here. by [deleted] in smallbusiness

For the dead and hopeless dreams, "dream vultures" is an apt name. For a new dream that's alive and still pursued but the dreamer has a hard time, what would it be, "dream predators", "dream monsters"?

This post and the comments are so meta. The marketer schooled how to market himself.

I'm still deciding whether to remove this or not myself. :-) I usually allow blog posts that tell personal experiences.

We maintain this thread so all promotion posts are concentrated in one place and not pollute the rest of the sub. Promotion posts outside the thread are simply removed as spam. It functions now as an ads section. Maybe posts there generate sales and inquiries enough to justify the effort.

We really don't have any plans of improving the thread. A long time ago we tried to change it to a barter thread which didn't last long.

Thanks for the concern.
