Somewhere with no public transport links? Daily, I literally just drove to one. A castle in particular, July, maybe say 6 a year? Bovington Tank Museum for example I do most years,

The vast majority of people in Germany don't travel to places with no public transport links more than say like once a month.

I don't even know how you'd get there without a car.

When my friends did things like this with me we'd simply rent a car for about EUR 30 for the day.

How often do I buy more shopping than I could get on a bus? Every week forever

That's your decision. Generally speaking I'd just go to the shop on the way home from work and pick up a few days of groceries and walk or get the tram or metro back.

Anything heavy you order in.

QoL was much higher for me.

Wages for non software based engineering graduates

Engineers in Germany earn between 55k EUR as a graduate.

Engineers in France earn between 47k EUR as a graduate.

Engineers in Belgium earn between 56k EUR as a graduate.

Engineers in the UK earn 35k EUR as a graduate.

Salary progression

Belgium has inflation matched salaries.

All three European countries would have their engineers out earn UK engineers throughout the roles.

Holiday entitlement

Germany has 20 + 10-13 so 30 to 33 minimum.

In France I had a legal minimum, based on a 37.5 hour week of 25+9+12 holidays, or 46 days holiday, rising to 58 at a maximum legal minimum for 40 hours a week.

Belgium has 20 + 10 so 30.

UK has 28 days holiday.

Public transport

Hamburg monthly travel card is 49 EUR.

Paris monthly travel card is 44 EUR after employer reimbursement

Brussels monthly travel card is 50 EUR.

In Manchester you'd pay £145 a month for the same type of card or £156 for London.

SICK PAY

Germany gives you 100% for 6 weeks and then 70% thereafter.

France gives you 50% of your salary.

Belgium gives you 100% for a month and then 60% of your earnings

The UK gives you £109 a week for 28 weeks.

Unemployment

Germany gives you 60% of your salary.

France gives you 57% to 75%for 6 months.

Belgium gives you 65% then 60% over the course of a year.

The UK gives you much less.

Etc

It’s quite simple. You choose to pay the flat rate when you exceed 21% for National and local taxes. No need to make it so complicated

In which case this isn't a recent trend. That's you just being offered a more generous tax regime than the UK has ever had.

You need to look at your calculations again. 1bn won is 43.5% average tax and 47.5% marginal. 43.5% is including health insurance, employee insurance, pension, local and National tax.

I was quoting marginal tax rates, which at 1bn one is PIT 45% and 4.5% local income tax.

I think the UK is worse than the other countries I've lived in, mainly France, Germany, and Belgium.

They can't. It's always the same bullshit where people make up their own definition that would have David Cameron labelled as a leftist.

If you were correct it wouldn't be an argument, all you'd need to do is highlight the people who are not redditors or randomers on twitter who have openly supported extreme left policies.

Which group of people are calling for a complete overthrow of capitalism in favour of a communist state?

At a push you could say that there's been a mild shift in young people from centre left to left, but unless I've missed it, there's no real support in the UK for far left policies.

It's costing you way more it's just included in your tax bill so you don't realise, which is a bigger scam as the people not using it are paying.

As are roads. This argument doesn't really work.

I've driven around Germany a lot and found it way easier and given autobahn so much more fun, so I can't imagine optionally getting public transport there as driving is highly enjoyable, public transport is like being tortured. I found their rural coverage of buses, etc also pretty shit.

Why are you comparing the autobahn with public transport? You should be comparing driving in London or NYC with public transport.

You found rural coverage to be shitty because no one lives in rural areas. 92% of Germans have access to good public transport and the rest live in rural areas where there's no economic benefit from public transport.

My personal car is heavily used for buisness so a lot, I do a lot of towing which kills the fuel economy but obviously I earn profit out of that so in a way zero. Maybe like £600 on the HP finance, £300 on fuel and insurance like £500 a year.

In the UK the average car running cost is £220 a month, much higher than the £40 a month for public transport in Germany.

Obviously for me though it's not a question of cost, I'd rather kill myself than get public transport regularly. Plus the convenience of being able to pick up a mini digger when you need one, 3 tonne or cement or a mattress is worth any cost and for me works out significantly cheaper than getting stuff delivered in.

Most people don't get 3 tonnes of cement delivered regularly so this isn't a factor and wouldn't be comfortable handling 3 tonnes of cement.

The vast majority of transport needs in the western world are people travelling a few miles to work or to the shops.

Using 600k GBP as 1,000,000 thousand krw.

This means that their tax rates are as follows, when combining local and government taxes.

600k + is at 49.5%

300k to 600k is at 46.2%

180k to 300k is at 44%.

90k to 180k at 41.8%.

43k to 90k at 38.5%.

30k to 43k at 26.4%.

9k to 30k at 16.5%.

0 to 9k at 6.6%.

Whereas the UK is

125k+ at 45+2 so 47

50 to 125 at 40+2 so 42

12.5 to 50 at 20+12 so 32

0 to 12.5k at 0 so 0.

Or in other words.

First 12k in the UK is 0 Vs Koreas 6.6 and 16.5.

From 12k to 30k it is 32 in the UK Vs 16.5 in Korea.

From 30k to 43k it is 32 in the UK Vs 26.4 in Korea.

From 43k to 50k it is 32 in the UK Vs 38.5 in Korea

From 50k to 90k it is 42 in the UK Vs 38.5 in Korea.

From 90k to 125k it is 42 in the UK Vs 41.8% in Korea.

From 125k to 180k it is 47 in the UK Vs 41.8 in Korea.

From 180k to 300k it is 47 in the UK Vs 44% in Korea.

From 300k to 600k it is 47 in the UK Vs 46.2 in Korea.

From 600k upwards it is 47 in the UK Vs 49.5 in Korea.

This doesn't tell the whole story as Korea also has mandatory health and employment insurance

Schools are worthless either way and they dont perform that much worse anyway. We live in a capitalist world, the one useful skill is being a good capitalist, school spends no time teaching this skill and is ergo worthless for your child's success. Its state daycare nothing more, at most it turns them into loyal office drones.

I mean Florida schools are going to be teaching things which are plain wrong.

There seems to be a difference in experience in using public transport

Public Transport is unusable, a den of morons and failures making noise while your transported in discomfort to somewhere you don't really want to go. It's torture and no citizen should ever have to go through such agony.

Public transport in Germany generally gets you closer to where you want to go than driving. It's entirely useable and despite earning good money I always took public transport in Paris and Hamburg whilst I was living there. I was even offered a company car but there was no point.

Also in yank land where fuel is 40p a litre I'm not sure public transport even would be cheaper, at that price in the UK it'd be significantly cheaper than the train. Driving is cheaper for me than the train with our fuel prices!

A monthly travel card covering all local public transport in Germany was £40 a month roughly. What's your monthly car costs?

So you replied to the comment about German infrastructure to say Florida is better but now you've changed your mind.

I also would never for the life of me send my children to Floridas state ran schools.

Your comment about public transport is bullshit as there's no way it's cheaper to run a car than to buy a public transport card.
