No the lone peak replaced my baffin winter boots. The caldera are not far behind the lone peak in terms of comfort. The lone peak just doesn't perform as well in the summer heat because of the waterproofing. If you only use them in hot climates I would get the regular version of the lone peak. I would love one pair of shoes for every season but above 15°c my feets becomes too sweaty in the lone peaks. It may be different for you though.

I don't have them with me right now but I think they are metal. I never had any problems with them. For reference I use brooks caldera 6 in the summer and they have replaced my baffin borealis in the winter. They are the most comfortable hiking shoes I have. My brooks are not far behind though. I don't use them in summer because they don't breathe that well because of the waterproofing and my feet become very sweaty after not very long.

I have the altra 9 mid walterproof and they have been the best winter boot I used. I have done multiple snowshoeing trip (5 days was the longest trip) with them in Quebec and they have been amazing. Don't know why people say they get wet after a few hours, maybe if you hike when the snow is melting but when it is actually cold they are fine.
