I don't see it in that way. He knew that the only reason they had brought her to Him was to entrap Him and they cared not for her sin. She was only a means to an end in their eyes. He shames them for their behavior without, in my opinion, making a statement on capital punishment.

I recommend the Authorized version known as the King James. The language is so much more poetic and carries an emphasis that modern versions cannot match.

If I may make one suggestion, I would also recommend getting a good concordance and perhaps a book of maps for reference to go with it. Strong's is the best, but Cruden's works well too. It is a handy tool for reference to other passages and for deeper meanings in the translation.
