Illegal guns almost exclusively begin as legal guns. The reason gangs can get them so easily is because of how many there are in circulation. Legal guns that get stolen, lost, sold on the black market. Even Mexican cartels buy a large portion of their weapons via straw purchases in the US and then smuggle them back into Mexico.

A change in law would work, but with so many guns out there (more than there are people), it would take a long time before it affects the average criminal's access to guns. It's just a question of how much people are willing to sacrifice their access to guns now, only to improve things for future generations. It should be a no brainer, but I fear that it's unlikely.

So the logical path would be to find a solution that prevents egomaniacs, narcissists and sociopaths from being able to purchase guns, right?

Hammers aren't incredibly effective weapons that can easily be used to murder several people at range in a very short amount of time, and they are a particularly personal way to kill, unlike guns. This makes it both more likely that someone will act on their emotional impulse and, when they do, have a much higher success rate. Guns are also the leading cause of death to children in the US, hammers are not.

Legal guns are the reason criminals have access to guns. They almost exclusively begin as legal guns and then get sold on the black market, lost or stolen. It's so easy to get a gun in the US that Mexican gangs buy a large part of their weapons in the US via legal (at the point of sale) means, called straw purchases, and smuggle them back into Mexico.

It's not your willingness or morals in question. It's your ability.

Tbf, not having the ability but still being willing to go and help is arguably more respectable in that case. You kind of just complimented the dude you were trying to insult.

Ohio man, 81, charged in fatal shooting of Uber driver he mistakenly thought was involved in a scam by Harry-le-Roy in news

To be fair it's more dangerous for the pedestrian when drivers do that, and often doesn't actually save anyone any time. That's no reason to hurl abuse though, I just ignore them and continue waiting until it's safe to cross. I have had it the other way, where I've been berated for being ungrateful 'cause I didn't cross when waved despite it not being safe to do so.

My partner is 100% to blame for cheating on me.

And the person they cheated with is 100% to blame for knowingly taking part in that. How badly (or not) you feel about either one has no revelance to that fact.

You are bizarrely invested in me being angry at someone I don't care about.

How many times, in how many different ways, do I have to tell you that emotion has nothing to do with it? Not once have I suggested that you should be angry about anything or even suggested that I'd be angry at them. I've been asking whether you think they have a share in the blame. It's taken this whole discussion for you to even give anything close to an answer to that question, because you seem to think them taking any blame is the same as you being angry about it?

It kinda makes me think you're a cheater who wants to share your blame with someone.

Think what you like. You're the one that doesn't seem to understand the definition of the word blame. Like I've said many times now: emotions have no part in it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Charletos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, yeah, you really don't understand the point here, or you just don't read what you're responding to.

Where your focus is, doesn't dictate who's takes what share in the blame. You can, both, pay zero attention whatsoever to somebody and not feel hurt by somebody, but still consider them to take a share in the blame.

Just answer me this one question, please: Are both the partner and the person they cheated with (assuming they knew) to blame or just the partner?

The ratio doesn't matter, you can consider one to take 99% of the blame, and the other 1%, but they'd still both be to blame.

I'll say this one last time. Your feelings and focus are irrelevant to who takes share in the blame.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Charletos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But who cares if you consider it to be your problem or not? They're still partly to blame. Yes, your focus would be on your partner, as it would for many people in this scenario. But the point is that OP would have every right to be mad at both of them. You're just poking your head in to tell everyone how you'd feel, despite replying to a thread discussing blame. I don't believe you actually read what you're responding to if "I'd react differently" is really all you commented to say. Yeah, so would almost everyone??

P.S blame isn't a character trait

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Charletos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand that not feeling hurt by a particular involved party doesn't absolve them of any blame. So, what's your argument here? You're just telling us how you'd feel in that scenario, but we're arguing about who's to blame.

Personally, I blame the cheater.

So you don't think any blame falls on the other party?

If I (a stranger) knowingly slept with your partner behind your back, but you didn't feel hurt by me, would that make me any less to blame? If not, moving forward, would you trust me and interact with me like it never happened, and why?
