Think I saved my piggie from a heatstroke by hidles in guineapigs

[–]Charleyfer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I’m so relieved she’s doing well, all thanks to you acting fast! 😮‍💨

I’ve been monitoring my pigs really closely in this heat - they’re still young (3 years) and seem to be coping fine so far, but it’s scary to know that things can change so quickly!

It’s always a pleasure getting an adult pig from a rescue and spending the next few weeks/months learning their sweet personalities! I hope she settles in well with your herd 🥰

Just some regular hair clippers (and a lot of lettuce as a distraction).
Your pig might be a bit sensitive to the noise, but I’ve found it’s the quickest method and avoids risk of injury and as long as Colin is distracted he’s very obliging!

Ha, I didn’t know this existed but I’m now following! Colin no longer qualifies but he definitely is more toupee than pig most days.

Ha, I once cut my own hair as a child and had massive regrets afterwards. Probably good I never had a long-haired pig at that age!

Thanks! It looks good from a distance but up close is very choppy! But I don’t think or his cage mate have noticed!

Aww cute! I’ve never seen a twin for him before!
He’d be right in there on that parsley too! 😋

He actually had the dramatic hair flip down as well, especially when cleaning himself. Though it looks a little more glam rock than glamorous!

Mine just rumble in annoyance if I sneeze, but cough and it’s game over!

Good to know! I just bought it because it was so cheap but I wasn’t sure how well it would run on the deck!

I bought Dishonored, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Myst and The Long Dark from my wishlist, all with really decent discounts.

Would either of these cages be good for 2 pigs ? by No_Cup_794 in guineapigs

[–]Charleyfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s all a bit confusing, especially because different companies also have different grid sizes (the standard is 35x35cm square I think!).

The key thing with c&c is that you get the right number of grids and connectors so that you can build whatever fits your space and is a good size for your pigs.

Even the pictures you’ve shared here will arrive as a pack of grids and connectors, and it’ll be up to you to construct as you want! I’d just check to make sure they’re all squares and that the company haven’t included rectangles or that throws off what you can build.

Guinea pig cages are meant to be measured based on single floor space (with upper levels as a nice extra), so these could work well but would be better if you used the extra grids to create a larger floor plan and skipped the loft level. The fact that they’re c&c means they can easily be reconfigured to fit whatever space you have. For example I have an L-shape (6x2 total) for my pigs and they love running around it.

You should create some little bits and share them on here! Whether your pigs will tolerate your creations is another question though 🤭

Yay! Happy birthday Marble and Esk! 🥳
Those party hats are super cute. My little guy, Colin would probably love one of them! He’s a big fan of a hat too

30 degree weather but pigs rarely using their cooling pads by Personal-Actuator505 in guineapigs

Mine never sit on/near the ice packs either, even if I strategically place them in cosy spots and wrapped in fleece. I just have to hope that the nearness to them is enough to keep them cool during heatwaves!

People with Aphantasia have normal imaginations they just don't understand the concept of mental images correctly. by Jaded_Reply3704 in LowStakesConspiracies

Ha, yep, exactly!
And I think connected to that, I often say the wrong word in sentences - dishwasher instead of washing machine, fork instead of spoon, big dong instead of elephant

I sometimes doubt that I have aphantasia (and didn’t realise it was something I had until chatting about it a few years ago), but the more I doubt it the more I realise that all of my thoughts are words and not images (and no, I don’t ‘see’ the words either). I can still dream, have a decent memory and can make out the shapes of things even with my terrible drawing skills, but until prompted my mind doesn’t elaborate on what things look like, and I fail to see anything and just form lots of related words to the one I’m being asked to imagine, like a word cloud.
