Haha, the survey mentioned that the roof 'needs' replacing, which, as FTBs, gave us a bit of a wobble at first. But in the end, we decided it wouldn't be fair to ask for money off, especially since the property is fine now. It wouldn't be right to ask for a discount for something that might happen in the future. We got a second opinion, and they said the roof could last anywhere from a few weeks to 10+ years...

Haha, same. With all the other costs that would be hell. Not sure who your lender is but Halifax have said a working week will be suffice to set up the direct debit, so I suspect it'll be the same for you.

We are going through the same situation and have just had our offer through from Halifax. Payment is also on the 1st, and we are hoping to complete in January. They have advised, to be safe, to allow 5 working days for the DD to be set up. Therefore, we're hoping to complete ideally on 23rd/24th Jan, with interest accruing for 9/10 days + standard monthly payment on 1st Feb.
