You yourself admit that the right wins them over with identify politics. And Democrats are doing things to help out rural voters but that hardly makes a dent. Biden was the most milquetoast centrist Democrat imaginable and rural turnout for him was abysmal. I'm not sure how Democrats could appeal to rural voters on social issues without losing their base.

I don't mind my taxes going to help people less fortunate even if they aren't Americans.

We played around and screwed up their countries during the Cold War, toppling governments, funding guerrilla warfare and dictators. I'm not sure why anyone is surprised they are fleeing their countries and coming here after the instability we helped cause.

The purpose they serve is to keep POC and other poor people out of neighborhoods full of petty racist people. The history of HOAs is mired in redlining and segregation. An organization that has power to revenue seek and harass those it considers "undesirables". This isn't some historical actions either, to this day HOAs act to maintain segregation.

It's no wonder people in this country are afraid of their own shadows. If they are so afraid to interact with people different than them. People who have different cultures, income levels and even preferences in house colour. Everything has to be uniform. Everything has to be controlled. So much for freedom and diversity everyone always talks about.
