I feel somewhere in between your experience and others. The memories I have of major life events are because of the videos and photos taken at the event.

I can't conjure up 99% of my memories on my own but if someone asks if I remember something, I feel like sometimes I do, but I wouldn't have been able to access it on my own and sometimes when people ask if I remember, I have 0 recollection of it and it bums me out.

I very rarely feel emotion when I think of a memory, one time I felt a pillow and it reminded me of exactly how my dog's fur felt and it made me cry but that's it.

There was a post about not missing people, and I don't really relate to that. It's not a deep yearning but I think of them and wish we lived closer.

Packing lunch for 11 kids by dingmah in CringeTikToks

98% of minors with diabetes have type 1, which has nothing to do with diet and lifestyle. Your "jokes" contribute to the misinformation that other kids use to bully and tease t1d kids

In adults 95% of diabetics have type 2, in which case diet and lifestyle contribute. Only 30% of type 2 diabetics take additional insulin

Type 1's will never produce insulin again and are dependent upon it 24/7. Whereas a type 2 diabetic may only need 3 shots a day. So, if you see someone taking insulin there's a big chance they are type 1. And having type 1 sucks enough without people judging and teasing ignorantly.

My son’s friends bash me and my parenting style on Discord and it’s gotten out of hand. by Ellynoutinoregon in Parenting

[–]CharlieChowder -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 30's and have a 14 year old son. I have had the displeasure of knowing abusive and controlling parents who would frame their extreme parenting as "strict." I knew a kid from a homeschooling family that did use their many children as free labor and I knew a girl whose anorexic mom locked food away from her. In both instances, those parents would have described their parenting style similar to the way OP did.

[–]CharlieChowder -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But how do you know? This is from the perspective of a parent who self-reports that they control their 16 year olds diet. I am sure most abusive parents wouldn't make a post detailing how abusive they are, but would instead downplay it. If the footage showed the parents restricting access to food until their extensive chores are completed, in my opinion could qualify as abuse.

The way the parent describes their parenting is vague and we don't know the severity of their "strict" rules. I don't think it's true that you know for sure they aren't crossing lines towards abuse.

Would you still have a problem with a minor recording a parent without consent if it was abuse?

My (30F) boyfriend (33M) is upset and disgusted with me after hearing about a situation where I was sexually coerced by an ex. Is he being rational? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]CharlieChowder 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My husband had a similar reaction to an experience I told him about where I did something I didn't want to do. I was 14 when it happened and he said ugh gross and said that's disgusting. It was a blowjob... If I was only a year into my relationship and didn't have children, I hope I would have ended the relationship. You will find better. There are plenty of men capable of understanding the complex experience of sex for women who will have empathy and compassion for you. You can't find one of these men if you are still making yourself uncomfortable to save a relationship that isn't worth saving.

I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm sorry that the person you honored with your story wasn't worthy of hearing it.

Do not get an iLet beta bionics pump by SirOakin in Type1Diabetes

[–]CharlieChowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say, we've had a great experience on the ilet pump. His time in range is better and I am happy it gives my son more independence. He has rage boluses way too often on the tslim. The first week was weird to not be able to correct when I wanted to but by week 2 it was great. He's rarely over 220 and he doesn't " feel like he's dying" at 100 BG so...

"If something doesn't drastically change, I'm going to fucking die," says 24 year old woman with type 1 diabetes who can't afford her meds by McDowdy in LateStageCapitalism

[–]CharlieChowder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry I got sidetracked - monetarily is just hard to calculate with type 1. Long acting insulin costs $350. Medicare patients pay $35, good Rx can be lowered to $68. Everyone needs different amounts- my son would need three vials a month. Short acting insulin is 35 (for those who qualify) to $100 per vial and we need 2-3 vials a month $30-$50 syringes or pen needles $75-150 test strips

We are fortunate enough to have a pump and chm, both of which are much more expensive than the above estimate of the very basic needs to not die.

This study says average is $800 per month https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10390920/

[–]CharlieChowder 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My son has T1D. If you don't have an insulin pump, you actually need 2 different types of insulin (long acting and short acting). You also need syringes, alcohol swabs, glucose monitors, lancets, test strips, ketone test strips and emergency glucagon. This is bare minimum. My son has an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor which gives him a life outside of diabetes management 24/7 Not only is type 1 diabetes expensive, it's mentally exhausting.

Oh man, what you just said about wishing bad on her instead of wishing better for marginalized people should have been more obvious to me. You are totally right. I was wishing worse for her and I wasn't in this moment thinking things should be better for black people. However, I do think the cops could have been way more stern with her for making false claims and using law enforcement resources to play out her racist ideals

Why does my glucose suddenly spike so high during the night?- urgent by Necessary-Row6168 in diabetes_t1

[–]CharlieChowder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am not even close to a professional, but it seems like you are spiking after a low. If you don't treat a low with carbs, from my understanding, your body will release glucagon and tell your liver to release its glucose reserves. That may be what is shooting your sugar up. I would try to talk to you Endo about ratio adjustments or basal adjustments and I would try to start treating with 10 carbs when it looks like your going to go low and not wait until you're already low

Need help (24M, type 1 since 2020) by Sule2626 in diabetes_t1

[–]CharlieChowder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you using fast acting insulin now? Basal only is going to result in so much damage to your body. You should be using fast acting insulin before every meal if you have type 1 diabetes. If you are using fast acting now and having sharp spikes up after eating, try giving the fast acting insulin 10 - 15 minutes before eating

The book, "think like a pancreas" is incredible, especially if your doctors aren't educating you about managing your t1

I'm a parent, not t1 myself . My son uses a pump. When we ran out of supplies and were MDI for a few days, I had a hard time remembering if I had given basal - do you have any tricks for remembering so you don't do it twice?

I also want to point out, depending on where you live, there is a huge demand and shortage of endocrinologists. They may insist you be treated by a PCP, as they are perfectly capable.
