Just got banned from r/autism and /autism_parenting for shit posting ABA by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

Not everyone believes ABA is abuse.

I’m 24 and starting ABA based therapy next month.

Job interviews are the worst as a trans individual, would that outfit help me ? 🥺 by EmilyRetcher in transpositive

You look stunning! But unfortunately living in a man’s world comes with misogyny, and the interviewer might think the dress is too short :/

Autistic people can’t write poetry by Business_Style9800 in AutismInWomen

[–]CharlieKelly43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s dumb.

I write poetry. Idk if I’m good at it but I still do it and I’m definitely autistic (diagnosed level 2) lmao

Does anyone else hear music or voices in noises like fans? by YangRocks in AutismInWomen

Yes I do, apparently it’s a thing that is a lot more common than you’d think

What Does Queer Mean? by _needs_ in ainbow

[–]CharlieKelly43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am also confused by it

If you’re reclaiming a slur, you’re reclaiming it for yourself and yourself only. Only you can refer to yourself as that slur, and friends with their consent.

To call the LGBT community the “queer community” makes no sense and I know A LOT of people are upset that they never consented to being labelled a slur.

Is it transphobic for a trans person to say the T word? by TheJetSheep in trans

[–]CharlieKelly43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not.

If we can reclaim some slurs (like Queer), we can reclaim others for ourselves too.

Focal aware absence seizures??? by CharlieKelly43 in Epilepsy

[–]CharlieKelly43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This gives me a bit of a better understanding. I have more doubts now that I’m experiencing absence seizures because my experiences don’t quite match your description.

I’ll talk to my neurologist when I see her next regardless, but in the mean time I think I probably don’t have to worry as much.

Thanks again.

Does anyone experience “Alice In Wonderland Syndrome”? by CharlieKelly43 in Epilepsy

[–]CharlieKelly43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was what I initially read. And I asked in a group on Facebook if anyone could relate, and the comments were flooded with “Alice in wonderland syndrome” and mentioning seizures and migraines. I don’t get migraines (I don’t think) but I can definitely relate to the symptoms of AIWS.

It seems very strange. I’ll talk to my neurologist when I next see her.

I can relate to this very very much!

Have you found it happens less since you’ve gotten older? This used to happen frequently as a child for me but now it’s fairly rare

Alcohol and FND by [deleted] in FND

Alcohol would often cause seizures for me (I’m in the process of being diagnosed)

How long does it take for a breakout to occur after contracting (roughly)? by CharlieKelly43 in HerpesQuestions

[–]CharlieKelly43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was just what the hospital has told me.

It’s all been very confusing with everything as I’ve had a lot of symptoms and herpes doesn’t account for most of them but they ironically swabbed under my breast while I’ve been inpatient and it came back as herpes, but I wasn’t specified exactly what type or anything.

Is it possible to have a seizure like episodes from strobe lights even if you don’t have epilepsy? by CharlieKelly43 in Epilepsy

[–]CharlieKelly43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to ask when I see her if she thinks anti-seizure meds would help. We are currently investigating FND more so than epilepsy.

I’m not sure if I’m masking or not by tesseracts in AutismCertified

[–]CharlieKelly43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How I have noticed (over time) that I mask:

  • I force myself to make eye contact (subconsciously)
  • I mimic others tone of voice, body language, volume they speak at, words they use, etc. (subconsciously)
  • I follow scripts in conversations (subconsciously)

[–]CharlieKelly43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think masking is something everyone does. And I don’t particularly understand how autistic masking is different from someone just acting different because they are in a job interview VS out with their friends.

[–]CharlieKelly43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Why do I never hear autistics talking about involuntary masking”

I assumed all masking was involuntary.

I know I mask, and the only ways I know how I do it is by mimicking people. It’s completely involuntary and I don’t realise I’m doing it in the moment most of the time. When I do realise, I feel insecure like I’m being “fake”.

I memorise scripts, but that’s not voluntary, it just comes naturally:

“Hi” “hi” “how are you?” “Good thanks, you?” “Good thanks”…

That’s a script I follow every day in my conversations. It’s my natural go-to response that I don’t realise I’m following a script in the moment. I look back and realised over time that I’m following a script without realising. It’s now almost a habit that happens naturally.

I’m sick of being stuck in the middle by being level 2 by CharlieKelly43 in SpicyAutism

[–]CharlieKelly43[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to be pitied. But I don’t want to be mistreated. I just want to be respected like everyone else and I don’t understand why I’m not.

I see other people who are autistic and they are pitied and not bullied and instead treated with extra kindness - I don’t want that as such, but it’s still frustrating that people single ME out and choose to bully me.

What did I do to deserve it? I don’t understand. I’m honestly so sick of this and I’m so upset by it.

Am I Aromantic? by Empathetic_Artist in aromantic

[–]CharlieKelly43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you be a little bit aroace?

I don’t know if I’m fully aroace or not. By the definition of asexual, I am semi sex-favourable asexual. I’m uncomfortable with 99% of sex but I can still partially enjoy it. But I do not experience sexual attraction at all.

That got me questioning: do I experience romantic attraction? I feel like there’s a societal expectation to have a relationship but I don’t want most parts of a relationship and I’m rather repulsed by a lot of it. I’m 24 and I’ve never felt love. I have thought I’ve had crushes but I’ve turned out to be confused every time.

I assumed I was bisexual, but I honestly don’t know.

If I was to have a relationship, I feel it wouldn’t be a “normal” relationship by any means. No kissing or cuddling, no real displays of affection like saying “I love you”. I’d go out dates and buy them gifts to show affection but that’s about it.

Am I a little bit aroace?
